I thought a certain player on the Rockets couldn't play? Um, a certain #52? And what did he do tonight? 11 points, 7 boards, and a block against Ben Wallace, one of the better defenders in the league. Is it one game? Sure. But you guys didn't hesistate to call for his head after one game, so I think all of us in support of Collier should have our own moment (and thread) now. How many of you wouldn't like to have a guy that could contribute 11 points and 7 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench at center? I sure would.

(And don't dare come at me with any one game mess if you don't like Collier... you all know you were calling for his head after the first preseason game and before you had even seen him play on draft night)

Folks, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Jason Collier just started showing the type of game that he showcased at Georgia Tech. Stereotyping him as a "slow white lug" like some people who will go nameless was completely unfair and inaccurate.

The Collier I saw at Georgia Tech was one that really crashed the glass, played an inside-outside game and was excellent at setting screens and moving w/o the ball. Bill Worrell was commenting on how when Collier sets a screen, its like a brick wall. The type of defense Collier played tonight is all I ask of our big men. Hold your position, dont get faked out and make your opponent shoot outside his comfort zone.

I would hope that this performance merits Collier some more PT, but alas I feel Rudy will give KT the mins during the reg season. I'll give KT credit that he has trimmed down and become sleeker in build, but Im still not impressed with him. He still does not get in there and "bang" and is still pretty soft on defense. His offensive moves and passing ability look very smooth but thats about it. Collier can develop into the hard working player under the glass and the rock on the frontline that the Rockets need, he just needs to continue getting PT.

First of all, I'd like to say that I was never calling for Collier's head after the first preseason game nor did I take significant anti-Collier notes during the RMR.

I bet some will point to the "Bust" thread, but once again I'd like to say that I always acknowledged that he does have some promise. Certainly, this is a step towards the right direction but as you said, it doesn't mean anythign just yet. If he can bring anything close to what he did tonight (in terms of play, anyway, not stats), I will extremely satisfied.

Anyway, boy am I glad that I didn't call for his head after the first game out of mere frustration. [IMG]

I know you anti-Collier folks are there... come out, come out of hiding... [IMG]

What was that about Rudy calling a public press conference to admit he made a mistake drafting Collier? Where did that talk go? I don't understand? [IMG]

Ok lets take a look at this. Detroit-What quality big men did Jason have to defend? Lets see at Center hmmmmm..... and at forward who hmmmmm cant think of anyone???

So of course we need to wait for some more games before Collier can be evaluated?

They do have Ben Wallace and Jerome Williams, two solid players, but I do understand your point. But PLEASE, put emphasis on that last sentence. I totally agree. It's what I've said all along. This post however is for those who after he was drafted, after he played one game, etc. said that basically he sucked and that his career was over. I know this doesn't make him a big time contributor yet. It was one game. And I'm sure those of you against Collier feel that exact same way. But I still have one question for you- how do you think I and others who support Collier feel when you're calling for his head after one game? The same way. Is it accurate to say he has for sure arrived as a force tonight? No. But if you can act like he has no future after one game, then I and everyone else should get our chance to talk him up after a good performance.

I guess you should have put your disclaimer down with capital letters, bold, italics, another color, and a huge font.

It's funny how often we have to divert attention from the original point to cover things we have already said so many times before. [IMG]

I guess once we have our convictions pointed towards one opinion, we don't catch such things.

Cat, I guess you should start looking for some posts which illustrate that opinion. That way the Collier bashers won't be able to hide!

I'm an anti-Collier based on his prior performances. All because a guy has one good game I'm not going to hail to him as god.

Good idea Ace! Let's play a new game: identify the posts!

Yep, 2 for 7 from the field, and 0 for 2 from the line... That's the marksman we were looking for...
We're better off with Chuck Nevitt...

Collier sprained his bum-bum while shooting those last free-throws so he'll be on the IR OCT 31.

At what point do Collier supporters acknowledge the basketball showcase this rookie is providing and concede that he will never be an effective NBA player at least within the next few years? This adamant denial cannot possibly sustain game after game after game....

Collier will never be as good as Croshere. To believe otherwise is foolish. The real question should be whether Collier will last in the NBA past one season or end up in Europe. Most observers will not require a full season to realize the answer to this question. If it looks like a mutt and it barks like a mutt, the overwhelming odds are that it's a mutt.

I think we should give that Boseman kid a shot. He has a nice touch and seems to like to play D. Collier,Bullard,Langhi must go.

Collier just don't have "the right stuff". He is, in my opinion, the second coming of Todd Fuller.

Don't try and argue with TheCat. Its useless, I just ignore his comments because they are intrenched in denial and bias.

The thing that bothers me so much about Collier is that he is the slowest player I've ever seen. My mom is faster than him and she is 70 years old.

He won't be a bust to me. I expected him to play like this.

Exactly. You think Rudy is gonna say that he sucks on TV? He might have said it under his breath but he won't say it in the public. But he should say to the public that he screwed up and should have taken Q. Richardson in the draft instead of this Big Slob we have now.

Collier will be an IR for life...

    man...
you know you made a bad draft pick, when he's a white dude who can't make free throws. this guy is supposed to be a good shooter? right? he freaking sucks! let me tell you something..we would be better off cutting this ******* and using the roster space for anybody else.. ANYBODY ELSE. you name him id rather have him.

It's Preseason alright! You just simply can't rely on the rook' Collie, Because he is just simply suck! You get it he is not what we want on Rockets uniform. Premature judgement? Man! I surely hope so!

WHAT THE HELL HAPPEND ON DRAFT NIGHT

These are about 1% of everything I've seen. Come on, where are you guys? [IMG]

It was nice to see Collier have a less embarassing showing. To date he has reminded me of how K. Thomas looked last year. Wide eyed and very lost. While Ii have yet to see anything that would lead me to beleive that he will contribute as much as Kenny. I do feel that like Kenny he will find his way and contribute to the team. Whether he was the best pick the Rockets could have made can and should only be aswered at the end of the season. To speculate anymore than that on Colliers worth to the team this early in the season is a waste of time.

Collier defended the same players your namesake did and did an equal or better job of it (including 3 fewer TO's).

Since you don't watch much Eastern Conference ball, here's a quick refresher course:

Jerome Williams: 1996 Pistons first round pick; 26th overall; #2 (behind Mutombo) in rebs per 48 min in 1999; very highly regarded on this BBS

Billy Owens: 3rd overall pick 1991 draft; career 12.3 ppg & 6.9 rpg

Ben Wallace: 8.2 rpg -6th in league in 1999 based on 48 min on a very productive Orlando team; 1.6 blocks/game - 9th in league on 48 min. basis (your namesake wasn't in the TOP FIFTY!)

John Wallace: Knicks 1st rounder in '96 after leading Syracuse to the NCAA Finals; 17 points in 21 minutes for Knicks last year vs Rockets

Eric Montross: #9 overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft; NUMBER 9? ISN'T THAT WHERE PRYZBILLA WAS DRAFTED?

Even though these guys aren't household names, they are all NBA players with game. And the Rockets Rookie NUMBER FIFTEEN pick held his own. 15th pick? Funny, that's were Kelvin Cato was drafted in 1997.

Eric Montross was never on Collier ONCE. Nice try. Ben Wallace, one of the better defenders in the league, was on him the majority of the time. Getting 11/7 on Wallace in 25 minutes is indeed hard to do.

The one player who did guard Montross and in turn was guarded by Montross was Kelvin Cato, and he was held to 8 points and just 2 rebounds. Meanwhile, Montross put some nice moves on Cato and scored 6 on him too. Should Cato be cut too? I'm using your same logic.
