That one could have been just a binary guess, but he called a 4-way trade on Dwight to LAL long before the reports, so yeah...there would have been one hell of a guess... I don't think Morey does, either. I'd imagine Morey going after those two the way he went after Gortat and Delfino, on Morey's terms. If Morey can't get those two at the price tags he wants, then he will just pick up Delfino and Brooks' options and save his cap space to renegotiate+extend Parsons. I don't think that it's a matter of not having the money to pay Patterson, but rather that they believe that Patterson's market value would likely be greater than his basketball value, which would leave them with the bad-worse options of either losing him for nothing or being stuck with a bad contract. As far as T-Rob goes, we don't know what T-Rob will ultimately be, but I think Morey is high on T-Rob not because T-Rob may be Love Lite, but that T-Rob may be LeBron Lite. Muahahahahahahahaha. Okay, off to bookmark this post so I can pull it up when T-Rob turns into LeBron Lite in a year or two.
He has, but it's a little early to decide that T-Rob has no value as a potential trade piece. A lot of GMs were surprised that he was available when Morey pulled off the trade with Sacramento.
I would be totally fine with Josh Smith in Houston. His shot selection is dubious. But he can run, create shots for others and is a good defender. In this new NBA where speed and quickness are at a premium, I think Smith at PF with Parsons at SF would be very good. I am also fine with Milsap. Better rebounder. Either would be solid additions. But, I don't see either as that "2nd guy" for Harden. They seem more like "3rd guys" to me. There would obviously be more moves made.
Not sure about the dynamic in ATL, but I bet that they've never been fond on Smith taking 3s. So he takes those long 2s. I bet he'd love our philosophy of take a 3 or drive to the paint. Call me crazy but I bet he'd fit in perfectly.
Exactly. Rockets management committed to keeping only minimum level talent at minimum salary so that they can attract the big name players.
Credibility turns on a dime ... without an assist, doesn't it sports fans? My big question is what happens to Omer Asik? He has exceeded my expectations, and, even if isn't a scorer or extraordinarily quick, Asik has been very effective for us. I remember this guy named Mark Eaton with the Utah Jazz. He was slow and didn't score much, but he gave fits to another center named Hakeem Olajuwon. Some here might be old enough to remember at least one of them if not both. Asik is only 25 and improving with every game. Although he can never be compared to the Dream, Olajuwon, good as he was in his early years, didn't peak until his 30s. I surely hope (and I know I'm in the minority here) we don't trade him for Dwight Howard or Bynum. Howard IMO is too much of a prima donna as well as being fickle. Both are injury prone. If Motiejunas bulks up without losing his footspeed, he and Asik form a combo in a faint likeness of Otis Thorpe and Olajuwon. As D-Mo shifts over to center, we have several strong candidates to play the Carl Herrera role in Robinson, Jones, Smith and White (albeit a remote possibility considering his fear of flying and basketball dedication).
Yeah but neither have the potential to be the 2nd man on a championship team. If we keep both as starters that means that our next max level guy will be a small forward. That's unlikely since there aren't any good max small forward free agents and also since Parsons is of more value than D-Mo. Don't see Asik being flipped unless it's for Dwight Howard, which is very unlikely.
I think you are writing off the possibility of Donatus as the 2nd best player on a championship team a little too quickly -- especially in combination with Asik, since the two compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses perfectly.
And play them all where, RGV? DMo + JSmooth/Milsap makes little sense; DMo DMo + JSmooth/Milsap + Jones + legit b/u 5 = roster crazy.
