Surely more than you wanted to know...an over the cap team can send out more $ than it receives to an under the cap team. Cheap, unrealistic example...Rockets ship Rice's $9+m and a future 1st to Detroit for Corliss Williamson @ $5.0m (but goes out until 2007).

Backup to friggin' Cat Mobley!?!??!??! BUAH HA HA HAAAAA.......

    :D

How about Cat Mobley backing up GA? Watch some Warriors games and compare & contrast. Gilbert is a much better player than Mobley, but he's just recently been noticed on the national scene. Too late Rockets fans. You had your chance in the 2001 draft.

What you really *should concentrate on is calling for "Stevie selfish" & "my-ball Mobley" to pass the ball to Yao Ming when you go to games. Then your team will be a regular participant in the playoffs.

What's funny is that only the Rockets and Rockets fans think the future is THAT great.

Remember when the Charlotte Hornets had a great future in the early 90s? Or the Orlando Magic of the mid-90s? Or the Dallas Mavericks with Kidd, Jackson, and Mashburn?

Fact is that there is nothing close to a guarantee this team reaches greatness.

In fact, odds are that the Rockets will only win 50 games or so, than compete for a title.

We should make a push for Gary Payton.

Gater, I have a question. Gary Payton is in the final year of his contract, and his bird rights were traded with him, so he can be signed and traded in the summer. BUT, is there anything preventing the Bucks from adding a player from THEIR side to such a sign and trade? For example:

    Mo Taylor
    Cuttino Mobley
    Glen Rice
    Kelvin Cato
    Jason Collier (balance salaries)

    for

    Gary Payton
    Jason Caffey
    Anthony Mason
    Ervin Johnson
    Desmond Mason

Gater, is that possible? To add players from Milwaukee's side?

For everyone, thoughts on this trade? We lose lots of pure talent, and I've calculated total cap figures to be in favour of Milwaukee. What we do get is the chance at a championship in the near future, as well as a tough guy in Anthony Mason, as horrible as his contract is. Ervin Johnson would get few minutes left behind by Ming.

    Ming/Ervin Johnson/Anthony Mason
    Griffin/Mason/Caffey
    Desmond Mason/T-Mo/Boki
    Francis/Desmond Mason
    Payton/Francis/Moochie

    Thoughts?

Yes success and greatness are no guarantee I agree. But saying that the Rockets and Rockets fans have blind faith and only we think that this team is gonna be great is wrong. Quite a number of basketball pundits predicted bright future in our young team especially since Yao broke through although they also said the same for GSW and Baby Bulls.

Also for the "bust" teams you mentioned, the main problem for them is not a lack of talent, it's that they didn't manage to keep their players together. You really think that Orlando team wouldn't be great if they kept Shaq? Or that Dallas team wouldn't be great if they kept Kidd? And I am not sure which Charlotte team you're talking about.

Keep the faith. Our team will be great if we keep our current players and the young players live up to their potential. It's not a sure thing but certainly have very high potential.

This thread is like the Rockets. Pointless thread, point guardless Rocks.

Let's get Arenas. Let's get Brand. Let's get Kidd. Let's get real.

I don't want all of those guys. Infact, I'd rather have Brand than Gilbert OR Kidd. Don't wanna be like the Blazers were 1-2 years ago, having too much talent and not being able to do **** with it. We need a backup SG that will score atleast 8 or 9 points a game and a PF that we know we can get a 18 pts and 9 or 10 boards every game. I've been thinking realistic the entire time.

Warriors/Arenas are in the same situation as Rockets/Mobley were in a few years ago.

No, the Warriors will NOT have to use their MCE to resign Arenas. They have his early bird rights, which can be a little bit higher than the MCE, so GS can obviously match any MCE offers. Since the Rockets are pretty clearly capped out, the Warriors could exercise their right to keep Arenas from the Rockets, much like they did with Marc Jackson.

For more proof that the Warriors will not use the MCE to resign Arenas, but the early bird rights, look at the Rockets offseason with Mobley. They used early bird rights to resign Mobley, and kept their MCE intact (at the time, 2.25 mill) and used it to sign Maurice Taylor.

GATER- Regarding Mobley. Of course he had a choice of where he wanted to go. The reason he's not a Raptor is because he never signed an offer sheet with them. Had he accepted their offer, the Rockets wouldn't have been able to match. Restricted free agency is not an auction. It just gives the incumbent team the option to keep a player by matching the offer, but sometimes the team doesn't have the ability to match the offer.

Disregarding any of the stuff about whether we even want him, he wants us, or if Les can stomach another big contract, the only way Arenas is a Rocket next year is if Golden State agrees to a sign and trade. Otherwise, they'd simply match the offer.

Why isn't it? Before the trade-deadline it was.
