The way it looks, the Rockets aren't going to make the playoffs. So, the Grizzleys will likely have a chance at the Rockets unprotected number 1 pick.

When you stop to think about it, there is a 75% chance that the worst record in the league won't get the top pick, and if the Rockets stay in the best spot of the team not to make the playoffs, then there is a possiblity of them WINNING the Lebron James sweepstake. The chances are remote, but you never know what will happen in the draft. It has been know to happen before, because the law of averages don't say it won't happen.

If in the remote case that scenario pans out, what would you do. Will you rather have a Francis or a Lebron James (a guy who is so good he has to play mind games with himself to stay interested in the game. A guy who was offered millions of dollars to play in Italy this year, his senior year).

Francis is a star, but I don't think he will be the brightest star.

I'm just bringing up the possibility, because when I think about it, I don't want the Rockets to be in the position where they win the lottery and the can't keep the pick. DO YOU THINK I'M SELFISH?

    Ill just say this...

If we didn't trade for Francis, we would be worse off than we are now. None of the players that we traded for Francis have done anything. O Harrington is just now starting for the Knicks. Dickerson hasn't had a full season in a long time. There is also the fact that if we hadn't traded for Francis, we wouldn't have Griffin, Posey, or MING.

So yes, I would rather have Steve, Griffin, Posey, and Ming than Lebron.

If it happens, it happens. Nothing we can do about it now.

Think about it this way. We had no right to have Steve Francis. We had no right to have Yao Ming (we should have picked No. 6-7 according to the record). You can't have everything in your life. You make some, lose some.

Isn't our pick top 3 protected? Francis has been well worth it. Who knows, maybe James will turn out to be closer to Rider than Kobe?

If we got James, we could just threaten to trade him for the second or third pick plus a player unless Memphis gave up something we wanted, or we could actually make the above trade. If for some odd reason we get the number one pick, we will still get something good out of it.

Not really. It WAS protected for a number of years but the Grizz never cashed in on it. They just decided to wait until it was completely un-protected. The Rockets figured they'd be in the playoffs or at least competing for them by now. In fact, they were right. Grizz just may have gotten lucky.

    Jeff, gr8-1:

If I recall correctly, the pick doesn't actually HAVE to be ours. I believe (at least in the case of last year) it could be our pick or any lottery pick.

So in the chance case we miss the playoffs and land the #1 pick, the solution would be fairly simple: trade down into the lower part of the lottery for a nice player and any of the low lotto teams that would be drooling for Lebron, give Memphis the pick, and keep a nice player for yourself.

In the previous years, it had to be either our pick, or one within 2 spots of us, and WAS protected, but this year it has to be either our pick or any pick in the lottery.

There's no way we'll give them a top 12 pick, ESPECIALLY if we get lucky with the ping pong balls ...

The problem is that we don't have another 1st rounder this year other than ours. So we must give our own pick to Memphis. The only way of getting another pick is via trade. But then other teams would know that we're desperate for a pick to give to Memphis so they would ask for an unfair trade.

I don't think that would be the case at all. There will be 12 other teams wanting to get Lebron and they will all know that everyone else wants him too. I'm sure every lottery team would be more than willing to give us a star and their pick for James. And if not, an unfair trade is better than no trade at all.

Is there something in the trade that says we have to give them the highest pick we have. If we would get #1 (or even #2 or #3), could we still draft the player management wants and trade players/future picks for another late lottery pick. Last year, the Wizard attempted to get Posey. I would imagine that if the Rockets offered a resigned Posey, future 1st/and or current 2nd rounder for the Wizards late lottery pick and a contract, comparable to Posey's, that the Wizards want to get rid off, that it would work.

With that many options with our potential 1st pick, we'd be totally screwed if we make the playoffs ...

Dammit! We're going to make the playoffs!

If we go lotto, I hope Memphis wins. They deserve some good fortune.

Come on. What are the odds we'd win it again? We won twice last year (our number drawn first and second) and this year as the best team not to make the playoffs?

I know it won't happen. The Grizz will have to settle for a non-lotto pick, because we'll make the playoffs.

If we don't make the playoffs, we would have probably the 13th worst record. The chance to win the lottery with that record is incredibly small. Ever since the lottery started, the teams with the 13th worst record always got the 13th picks.
