I think our wing defense is actually not that bad, our interior defense is horrendous. Asik does a good job of blocking shots and rebounding but once he's out of the game its a free for all in the paint. I like T-Rob but I'd rather have Josh Smith. But just for the sake of this post Brewer would be a great fit for this team
What i should have added: 1)Parsons would be 6th man. 2) WING* defender 3) make us deep and defensive 4) would it be financially possible? Anybody know?
Do you mean getting Iggy and Smith both? I'd say very unlikely. Both would have to take significant paycuts (compared to their current salaries). And Smith is looking for a raise, not a paycut.
But of course you could sign Iggy and then sign and trade for Smith. It would have to involve Asik or Lin, however.
Yeah..... Something man. I wouldn't trade Asik away though. ( I wonder what smith is actually going to get. We all know he isn't a Max, like he thinks he is)
I would hope Parsons would evolve into one. Like many have said, the tools are there. He just needs the practice and discipline. Maybe we can somehow pull Iggy and Smith hah!
Parsons isn't strong enough to be a lockdown defender while also playing the offense he is playing right now. But I think if he decided to play harder on defense and conserved more of his energy on offense, the team would be better for it.
STEP 1) Trade Robinson, Beverley and our pick (if we have one) for a Top 10 pick. STEP 2) Draft Victor Oladipo. STEP 3) Use our second rounder to draft Trevor Mbakwe, an undersized strong, tough PF (sounds like a Morey pick). Lin/Oladipo Harden/Oladipo Parsons/Delfino Motiejunas/Mbakwe Asik/Smith Solid team.
Well, Iggy can opt out of his contract this summer, foregoing that last year at...what?...$15,000,000. But would he do such a thing, even if another team (the Rockets) offers four years $60,000,000....which is more money than he's worth (and I think it'd be a coup to steal him and give us some D). Also, if you gave him 4 years and $60,000,000 (it won't happen, just hypothetical), Parsons would approach contract negotiations with, "Well, I know I'm not gonna get that kind of money, but I deserve...." And the contract requested would be, say, Nic Batum-ish. Parsons is likely entrenched as the starting 3. Most likely option is adding Josh Smith. Dude can pass, block shots, and actually play some D (mostly help-side D, but still). I would like to get someone for the 2/3 who can D up, though. It's painful watching the Rockets when Asik goes to the bench.
I can easily see josh smith here next season since defense and rebounding are rockets 2 biggest problems
Can't ask Parsons to be a better defender then he already is. His talent makes him a more natural scorer and truth be told you will need someone that wants to learn to defend. We can probably get one to come off the bench, since the NBA is littered with guys whose claim to fame is that they are wing defenders. Won't be one of the best but it is better then pretending Harden, Delfino or Parsons is one.
There are many times in the game where I roll my eyes watching Harden defend. Its somewhat excusable since McHale has Harden out there for 38+ minutes and defense takes up so much energy. Moving ahead (next year beyond), Harden's minutes need to come down so he can have the energy to play effective D.
