Probably premature....but this looks like it has a chance to be the first worthy follow up film to the original.
Saw this Friday night. I really liked it. RT scores may turn people off but I thought it was a good movie. Good visuals, everyone held their own acting wise, and it was nice seeing how Oz became who he is. 7/10
I saw this yesterday with my wife and absolutely loved it. Totally agree about the above poster. Do not look at the Rotten Tomatoes score and discredit this movie (82% of viewers enjoyed it.) If you're on the fence about it, do yourself a favor and go see it an judge it for yourself. It was so original and at times even magical. This one is special.
I really enjoyed it, I've never cared for the original but I was pretty entertained for the full runtime. Not a perfect film but very watchable, Michelle Williams damn....
This looks like they are taking the "smallville" approach to the wizard of oz story. I am all for that However, I think this could work as a tv series.
Me too. I think it's because we knew exactly how it was gonna end half way though. And you could easily tell who can act and who's just an ok actor. Michelle williams y Rachel Weiz were incredibly good. Mila and The Artist were adequate.
I enjoyed it for what it was, an original take on the beginnings of Oz. The cinematography of the Oz universe was great. Vibrant, saturated colors made Oz look wonderful. It was a great contrast to the sepia tone of the beginning. Braff was comical in his characters, but like he tends to do, he did go overboard at times. I enjoyed Franco as Oz, too. He did well at being charismatic as a magician and conman, but he had plenty of emo moments that dragged. I'd say towards the latter half is when there was a clear difference in the story telling. It got sort of formulaic and boring. Even the universe didn't seem as vibrant as it did before. I felt like they got lazy towards the end and were just trying to finish telling the story without giving much attention to detail. They could have done more with the witch magic and just the backgrounds. It was still enjoyable, and I understand it's a Disney PG movie made for kids. Adults will like it, too, but the flat second half knocked it down to a 6/10 for me.
Guess I just need to go see it. Starting to get a mixed bag of comments now. I completely missed that, RR. Did you like it? Sorry that I didn't see your post before.
