Yes, I would have to say they are completely different, and I speak as an educator. (Ahem). If by "sex" here we reduce the term to intercourse, then it's obviously different. In one case, the teacher is getting it, and in the other case, the teacher is giving it. But both cases become the same later, when both teachers are fired.
Ask the question another way. If you're 17 year old daughter had sex with one of her male teachers, how pissed would you be at the teacher? If you're 17 year old son had sex with one of his female teachers, how pissed would you be at the teacher?
I agree with everything that you said including what happens in the end. I just think that more than who is "getting it" the question is, legally should each be handled legally in the same way?
As a male, I think there's a difference. When I was a kid, I was dying to take it to town on a number of my teachers. In the future though, I may be a father... of a girl...
Whoops: I thought this was a goofy thread, and I didn't even think sub-18 students were under consideration.
Rape IS rape. Forcing sex upon someone else against their will is rape. There's nothing arbitrary about it. HOWEVER, we have laws that basically stipulate that someone of a certain age is not old enough to consent to sex with an adult. One day they can't, the next day (on their birthday), they can. That is considered statutory rape, and although it's a good law that probably can't be made better, it IS a bit arbitrary.
I disagree on the getting/giving thing. A girl can want to do her male teacher, too. Unless you are contending that girls don't get horny. In fact, women are much more likely to be attracted to older men than the reverse. I think it is the same thing. Unfortunately for men, in this type of situation the male is typically demonized more than the female.
I was speaking in a very base manner. I was talking geometry. I am not proud of the post, but there it is. Technically, it is different.
Speaking of which, my geometry teacher was an uggo... I want to say I don't see any difference, but if I had a son and daughter and both told me the same story, the first thing that comes to my mind is... "Way to go son!" and "I'll kill that teacher for touching my daughter!" I'm not proud of the double standard that exists in my head, but there it is. You asked, I answered.
What can I say...from my subjective perspective, I think there is a difference, but I guess legally one should not make a difference.
You dont hear about CHILDREN having sex with their teachers, unless you consider teenagers children, which they really are not, because when you're a teenager you produce these things called hormones. everyone is lead to believe you're not an adult untill you're 18, when you can't give a specific age for when a person matures from a child to an adult. an example is the difference between relations between a college student & teacher and a high school student & teacher. there may be less than a year in difference, but people dont accept high school teacher/student sexual relations.
What happens if an 18-yr-old and a 16-yr-old join the mile-high club during a transatlantic flight. ... Or what if it's the same flight, but the 16-yr-old started the flight as a 15-yr-old but has his/her birthday pass during the flight and while they're getting it on. I guess there aren't any teachers in this scenario, but legally, it's interesting.
Expanding on that, having sex with a person who you are an authority figure to makes it even worse. Don't worry about that, even in the most serious threads I thinks its good that humor is added, it relieves tension!
