This sounds like a joke piece. But the lesson from the Bynum debacle is that you stay away from players with both injury and attitude problems.

If he is medically cleared I would not be surprised if the Rockets make him a contract offer. Morey is a gambler.

Morey is a smart gambler, who's failed gambles don't cost the team much long term. Bynum would be the exact opposite of that if he gets the max contract he is looking for. The only way I would consider Bynum is on a mid level contract with a team option for the following year.

Philly's gamble is at least some what reasonable considering how Bynum played the year before. Personally I would be surprised if Bynum ever has a "pain free" season again, and once he has another guaranteed contract I don't expect his pain tolerance to go up.

The DA was responding to a tweet; of course it was a joke. DA don't announce actual prosecutions on Twitter. Philly is just blowing off steam because they thought they were getting a great center instead of a salary dump. I was reading an old editorial from a Philly sports journalist salivating over the prospect of getting the 'second best center in the NBA when healthy.' It's hilarious to see how people can acknowledge the 'when healthy' caveat and then completely ignore it when they think about their prospects. Textbook optimism bias. I saw Bynum's injury problems a million miles away and knew this acquisition was bad for them, but I suppose many Philly fans were too busy dreamcasting from the alternate universe in which Bynum is not made of glass.

The damage for the Sixers isn't so bad though anyway. Iggy was going to be on the books an extra year for $16m and they weren't going anywhere with him. With Bynum expiring, and a couple of others besides, they'll get a little salary cap room for the offseason. They did overpay for Bynum though. And of course, they still have the potential for screwing up by giving Bynum another high-dollar contract because of his supposed talent (supposed because you never get to see it in a real NBA game). But, assuming a rational actor of the GM, he gets to start his reboot a year earlier than before, so maybe it comes our alright in the end.

Philly is in a horrible position, they traded way AI to get this joker. If they let Bynum walk at the end of this season, then they pretty much gave away AI...sad state for the 76'ers.

But, if they don't let him walk at the end of the season, it'll be even worse.

(That's a bit rhetorical. It'd probably be worth signing him for, say, $3m if they don't find something better to do with any cap space they might get, just in case he does heal enough to play).

I aint crying for Philly. They facilitated the bs deal for D12 to goto LA. Far as I'm concerned, they deserve the spot they in for getting googly eyed after one decent season from Bynum. Who was the last NBA player with a suspect motor who ever achieved greatness? These execs get paid millions of dollars and they can't figure out that the first trait you look for in a player is motivation and heart?
