Updated Asik effect #s: When on floor, HOU D performs at top-12 rate & No. 1 on D. glass. Off floor: HOU D bottom-2, bottom-10 on D. glass. Might want to give Tim a try couldn't be worse.
A few notes from Ohlbrecht's conference call: - Rockets had indicated for a few weeks prior to Ohlbrecht being signed that they'd eventually like to offer him a contract. - Rockets offered Ohlbrecht a contract on the same day the Celtics offered him a 10-day contract. - He gets along great with all the guys on the team. Motiejunas has sorta taken him under his wings. Hasn't gotten any rookie treatment. - He's happy just being on a NBA roster and would understand if he didn't get to play at all this year. Just wants to learn and get better each day. - Looking forward, he'd prefer being a 10 minutes rotation player in the NBA over playing starter minutes in Europe.
Time to give this guy a look. Greg Smith is regressing big time and looks lost out there. And DMO is starting to look too Pattersonish with the lack of defense and rebounding.
Well, that does not mean anything. Average starter minutes in Europe are around 18-20 minutes a game. So it's not like that would be a big difference or anything. I mean last season he averaged 15.8 minutes per game in the German League ---> http://www.eurobasket.com/team.asp?Cntry=Germany&Team=3361&page=3&Stats=2012 and he averaged 16.2 minutes per game in the Eurocup last year ---> http://www.euroleague.net/competition/players/showplayer?pcode=LPK&seasoncode=U2011 So I mean really, what is he even trying to say there? He'd rather average 10 minutes per game in the NBA with the Rockets, than 16 minutes per game in the German League with a bad club like Skyliners? Almost funny he would even mention something like that.

The Rockets signed Ohlbrecht last Monday after the big man had spent all season with Houston's D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. In 32 games, including 29 starts, Ohlbrecht averaged 13.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.63 blocks. He has made the very unconventional trek from Europe straight to the D-League before signing his NBA deal. "Yes! Very exciting, very exciting," Nowitzki said on Saturday when asked about his fellow countryman. "I think he's a very, very athletic big guy. He can run. He can jump. He can shoot a little 15-, 16-footer. It's very hard to fight through the D-League: the road trips. It's hard. And everyone looks for the numbers, but I'm proud of him that he fought through that and played well. He played well in the D-League All-Star game. So he deserved a shot and I'm happy for him. I'm happy to see him tomorrow (Sunday when the Mavs play the Rockets) and congratulate him in-person and hopefully, he'll have a long run in this league. He's only 24. He can run and jump for a big guy, so it's fun to watch." Ohlbrecht was actually once compared to Nowitzki as he was still developing, although Ohlbrecht has made sure to clarify the different playing styles in several reports. Either way, both Germans have risen to the ultimate basketball playground in the form of the NBA and will be on the same floor come Sunday evening
Always hating. Ohlbrecht didn't bring up the 10 minutes in the NBA vs. bigger role in Europe remark himself. Some reporter did. Ohlbrecht just answered the question.
He would be getting alot more minutes this season in europe, he looks good, i have no doubt he could already play few minutes in nba. Honestly Greg S, doesnt look any better than him.
Dirk: Ohlbrecht = Yao : Lin. Hope we see more of Tim on the court today. Can't be much worse than the Tank Engine. Likely better due to higher familiarity with HOU system in RGV and higher talent level.
so is tonight German appreciation night for the Hou-Dallas game? Would be nice if they served brats + sauerkraut and some good Bavarian beer. Ach du Lieber!
No he would not. He was negotiating with the same team Skyliners. They just didn't want to pay him the money he wanted, so they didn't sign him.
So... No embarrassing or offensive German jokes from Clyde and the guys yet, despite extended opportunity to do so in the 4th quarter tonight. Impressive.
