Carlos Rodon with another Strasburgian line. NC State and Florida Atlantic are tied at 1 at stretch time. 7 IP, 2 H, ER, 3 BB, 16 K
gotta either declare for draft as a highschooler, or play 3 years in college (or be 21). he's a soph.
Thanks. Yeah, I read he got drafted by Milwaukee but went to N.C. State instead. Didn't know about the 3 year/21 y/o rule(s).
So if a stud like Rodon emerges as the clear 1-1 guy, how does the slot value work again? Was 7.2 million the maximum we could offer and 6.2 the max the next team could offer? Or could they possibly go above slot? With the draft budget and the value of getting extra guys if 1-1 signs a discount, I think it could still be interesting if there is a stud at 1-1.
Just so there is no confusion. You don't declare for the draft. You are either eligible or not, and then you choose to sign or not. If you go to junior college, you maintain draft eligibility each season, which is why it is far more common in baseball.
Baseball America: Prep Roundup Austin Meadows faced off against a top HS pitcher in the 2013 class and did pretty well. He's off to a nice start, but is lagging a bit behind Clint Frazier. Speaking of Frazier... blistering.
I like Manea and Frazier. Frazier is one of those scrappy hardworking guys with plus speed, defense, and arm strength. Insane bad speed and lots of strength. I can see him as a 20/20 player in CF
Baseball America Weekend College Preview Mark Appel will be taking the hill tonight, as he will be part of the welcoming committee for UNLV. The festivities start at 7:30 in Palo Alto. Indiana State will be back in action after a 12-day layoff. They are hosting Mercer and South Dakota State in a mini-tournament at their place. Sean Manaea is listed as the starter for Saturday, when they play Mercer at 2:30. Kris Bryant and the University of San Diego will be hosting a tournament starting today. The Toreros will face Holy Cross at 8:30. Also participating are St. Louis and Michigan. Ryne Stanek will take the mound for Arkansas in game 2 of a 4-game set with San Diego State. That game will start at 3. The Hogs won 2-0 last night behind a strong pitching performance from Colin Poche, with Brandon Moore and Barrett Astin in relief. Poche was a 5th-round pick of the Orioles last year. Grayson High is 5-2 on the year. After going 2-2 in the LaGrange Toyota Invitational, they walloped Central Gwinnett 18-2 on Wednesday. Austin Meadows went 2-3 with a homer, 3 RBI, and a stolen base. Next up for Meadows and the Rams.... a showdown with Clint Frazier and Loganville on Tuesday. They'll make the jaunt into Walton County (which I incorrectly referred to as Monroe, which is a city in the county) for that game, as it'll be held at Loganville High. Speaking of Loganville, they lost a road game 10-3 to Johns Creek last night. Tonight, they hit the road again to take on Collins Hill. Irrelevant: Grayson and Loganville's sub-varsity teams have played each other twice, with the JV squads splitting (Grayson 5-0 on Feb. 27, Loganville 12-5 last night) and Grayson's freshmen winning both (7-6 on Feb. 27 and 3-1 last night).
Indiana State will have audio links all weekend on their site. Also... Do you happen to have any plans that will result in you taking a trip to Loganville on Tuesday night?
Rodon Watch: He got shellacked by Clemson. Still put up the usual strikeout numbers, though. 4.1 IP, 8 H (1 homer), 8 ER, 3 BB, 8 K. He also hit 2 guys.
Well all players are bound to have bad games, As much as I would prefer Manea, I have a feeling Appel will be the pick now. Still have a lot of time left, it will be interesting to see if someone else emerges out of nowhere
Don't think I didn't check their schedule before the season started. Unfortunately, I usually work until 9pm during tax season.
Mark Appel looking good so far. He's gone 4 innings, allowed a hit, and struck out 8, but he's down 2-1 to UNLV. Both Rebel runs were unearned. Live Stream: Appel v. UNLV
