    Guys-
Have a question. I assumed for the last 4-5 days that I just pulled or tore something on my right side (or maybe even a deep bruise), right at the the bottom of my rib cage. It's been sore for a few days (to touch and when stretching).
Then last night as I was driving home I sneezed and it hurt pretty bad. This morning I got to the office and sneezed again and it really made me sit down for a minute or so. Nothing serious could still breathe just a real sharp pain which was intense for a minute or so then gradually goes away.
Any thoughts on what it could be? ANything serious down there? :)
Again it right at the bottom of my rib cage, right hand side of my body (right on the side but it is more towards the front than the back).
    Thanks for any input.

You could perhpas have an infection, it is causing swelling in that area that leaves it sore. I once woke up with horrible chest pains thinking I has having a heart attack, turned out I had a upper resporitory infection and was causing the lining of lungs to swell which put pressure on my rib cage. At any rate, give it a another day or two and see what happens.

Honestly, when I first saw this thread, I thought that Lil' Help was some new rapper and that Human Anatomy was his new CD. :D

If it is at the bottom of the rib cage, it could be a problem with your "floating ribs". If you get it hard in that area, those bones are relatively easy to break. Since you say that it is more toward the front, then this possibility is even greater.

    Question:
If you take a very deep breath, do you experience any pain?

If so, then it is possible that you may have fractured a rib.

What side is the appendix on? That is right where you would feel it, just below the rib cage. Be careful!

I thought of that this morning too, but that pain is farther down on the appendix (right side of ther body though) from what I saw on a couple medical web sites. At least it was described as lower. Maybe I'll check again to make sure. Definetely don't want that. Plus I don't really have any other symptons (fever, loss of appetite, etc)

A cracked rib is a possibility, but haven't done anything unusually terenous lately (shoveled alot of snow!). But if it's easy to break, who knows!

Thank you all for your input!

I don't honestly know. I've been shoveling snow quite a bit and other than that nothing beyoned what I normally do (walking the Dog in AM, working out in mornings). So it wasn't a sudden pull or tear while I was doing something it just kinda showed up.

Wish I had some cool excuse like I was kick boxing or something, but no good story behing it!

Five or so years ago, I had a pain in the same place and I thought I was going to die. I could not move or anything, and it came right after having bronchitis. Come to find out I had torn a muscle while coughing. Due to the location of the muscle and degree it was injured, it took weeks to heal.

So hopefully it's nothing major. You hate to over react, but sometimes better safe than sorry. Hope you feel better.

I had "walking pnuemonia" several years ago and afterwards had the same problem you had, TheHorns. I couldn't figure out what was wrong and it turned out that the severe coughing had left my rib-cage etc. really beat up.

I wouldn't put off going to the doctor, 4chuckie. Better to have someone tell you it's no big deal than HAVE a big deal that would have been better if treated early, imo. Good luck.

If you didnt get hit in the area, it is quite possible that you pulled the muscles surrounding your ribs. Sneezing could worsen the problem because it would cause the muscles to stretch more.

    Rest will heal it.
