Anyone Think Lebron James would sign a 10 yr $750 Million dollar deal if the NBA were like MLB?

I would pay him 50 million a year. 10 years at his age is too much because of injures.

It's hard to really put a price tag on him. You never know what the actual market value would be, but he's definitely "worth" at least 40-50 million per year.

See thats nuts bc when Pujols signed with anaheim he was without a doubt the best player in baseball and completely a stud in his prime on the fast track to being the best 1b of all time.....he didn't even get $30m/year he wanted....I get lebron is on another level but really 50m+ per season.

no cap and no tax, yeah the knicks, and especially the nets would offer him that, maybe the lakers too (but that's their only business, so maybe not).

Then why does society "make" his job so important? Whether people like to admit it or not, these guys can do things that normal people can't, which is why people pay a premium amount to watch them work. If a Dentist is so important, how come they're annual salary is probably less than a game check for Lebron? Lebron will never get paid what he's actually worth, which is probably 50-60 million, and the fact that he's worth that much offends people.

A 1st baseman in baseball doesn't effect the game NEARLY as much as Lebron does in basketball.

Not to mention Lebron is MUCH more of a draw, entertainment wise, than Albert Pujols.

    They really aren't comparable situations.

You easily forget how valued entertainment is in today's society. It's not about the "importance" of it, but simply the fact that entertainment is a heavily valued part of society.

And Pujols is far less important to the Angels than Lebron is to whomever. The Angels didn't make the playoffs right? It's not like Pujols got so badly as slammed as the Heat would if they didn't make the playoffs.

Really?... because the invisible hand of the free market doesn't think the way you do. Therefore society does not either.

He'd get it. 1 player in the NBA can have a MUCH bigger impact than 1 player in the MLB. By signing LeBron you're guaranteeing several years of championship contention and you'd make a ton of money back.

The reward to productivity in the top 1% is massively disproportionate, much like Lebron's game check dwarfs a dentist/s, Lebron's entire lifetime earnings will be significantly less than Warren Buffett can and has made on a single transaction, it really is a bit ridiculous to compare earnings to value.

Bingo. Plus, you're only worth what someone is willing to pay you (or how much you can convince them to pay you!)

    This from the same article(http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9002028/the-best-bargains-nba)....

"Anyway, in 2009, Forbes valued the Cavaliers at $476 million and the Heat at $364 million. Four years later, they valued the Cavaliers at $434 million … and the Heat at $625 million. Gee, I wonder what changed."

....and this is also the reason that i believe he is worth 50+ million$ per year.

Oh, and if your a billionaire Russian tycoon that likes shiny trophies(esp. NBA championship trophies), then $50 or $75 million is worth it.

Water is wet, and Bill Simmons always sides against owners. He's also pretty good at sucking up to the stars, presumably for access.

Have I mentioned that pro sports journalism is useless?

It's not necessarily even about value. A dentist can service, I don't know...20 patients in a day? Lebron can 'service' thousands of people in one game (cue the jokes). Not to mention the people watching on TV.

Add on the fact that some of those tickets actually are more expensive than a doctor's visit. Therein lies more value for some people.

So they should pay him as much as it costs to buy an NBA team? I don't know if market value is that high, but I wouldn't argue with A-Rod money.
