If Yao chucked as many shots as SF does, than he'd score 30pts consistently! I like Stevie, but give me a break. Yao is the guy they need to run their offense thru.

    Duh!

Unlike Steve, Yao will actually learn from this and protect the ball next time. Yao is improving, gets the team easy shots, and shoots a high percentage.

exactly. there is more chance for a team with a great center to win the championship vs. one with none. I'm not saying Francis will not win a championship but it is way easier if he can COEXISTS with yao.

I'll take Yao with Francis than Francis with Mobley in my team. Since thay all are on the same team, they need to play together and maximize their effectiveness.

The reason Yao gets so much focus in the media is because he is Chinese, he's opening a new fan base for the NBA, he's bridging cultures, and all that.

The reason basketball fans are falling over themselves in praise of him is because Yao Ming is a truly rare talent. Not only does he appear to have the potential to dominate his era, but some notable analysts (namely Bill Walton, who is eccentric, but knows his stuff) believe he can change the game. Basketball has never seen a player as tall as Yao, with such mobility, with such range, with such intellligence, and perhaps most importantly, with such court vision.

Remember, he is only a rookie, and he has made more jaws drop than anyone since Jordan. Shaq was a force when he came in, but Yao can alter the way people think about basketball. To not center a team around Yao would be an injustice.

....Except repeatedly brought the ball down low in stead of keeping it above his head. So instead of using his hight and keeping the ball away from smaller players, he keeps on playing with it low so that it is like stealing candy from a baby for the PG. they strip him repeatedly every game.

that is the one thing that upsets me. His reluctance (sp) to keep the ball above his head.

I can see bright bright future for the Rox with Steve & Yao together. We'll win a championship really soon.

I'm glad Yao & Steve get along really well. In fact, everyone likes Yao. It's just a matter of time before this team start to learn how to play off each other.

There's no need to single out any one player. Every Rox make mistakes from time to time. They just need to learn from it and try not to do it again.

BTW, we would need some good shooter with good defensive ability so whenever Yao is being triple and double team. These shooters can make them pay by making open shots.

Francis is already without a doubt the best scoring and shooting, and rebounding PG in the league, and arguably, I think he's the best PG the league has to offer. Kidd is certainly the reason it's arguable, but he's not any better of a ball-handler than Steve, just a better passer, and only saw any real success after moving East. Francis had a relatively large impact right out of the gates, in the massively competitive Western Conference.

I hope you were being sarcastic about putting Francis anywhere in the same league with Jason Kidd when it comes to ball handling. PLEASE!!!

Yao will be the first POINT-CENTER in the NBA. By then we will not have a need for Francis again :D

Everybody wants Franchise or Mobley traded? I think that's a far cry from the truth. Even Yao core-fans have sympathy towards Cat and Franchise, and desire as much as anyone else Yao Ming's Rockets busride into the playoffs and even Championships. But the bus just doesn't fire on all cylinders all the time. I do believe that the "bandwagon fans" and even some veteran bball fans are impatient and want immediate gratification from Yao Ming's contribution to the Rockets. Obviously this isn't an instant process. But don't let "bandwagon fans" weigh you down. It's pop culture, and is good for the economy :) .

    how about...
    payton?
    kidd?

francis is a great player, no doubt, but he is an average point guard. i wont argue that he is the best scoring and rebounding PG in the league, but when comparing PG's the #1 stat is assists (distribution). and in my opinion, when looking at PG's the #2 stat is turnovers (ball control, or lack therof). that is what the point guards job is and steve is only average for it. he is middle of the pack when comparing assist stats of all starting pgs and utterly horrible in terms of turnovers.
he is awsome, no doubt, and im glad hes a rocket, but he is far from the best true point guard in the league.

C'mon, how could you compare Yao with SF? They play total different positions. As a center, Yao is better than SF while SF is better in PG position. Viewing from athletic capabilities, SF is definitely better. You don't want Yao to be a PG, do you? However, Yao's importance for a championship team is obvious because of lack of good centers right now (Don't talk about Shaq. He is going to be done in five years). You can have a championship team with Yao and anyone of several good PGs. Can you have one with SF and anyone of all centers but Yao and Shaq? I don't think so. Unless near future, somehow, you find one good center.

If Rox fans want several championships, you have to love both. I do.
