    How old are you?

I hate to be the one to tell you there is no Santa Claus, but the News you see on tv is the news they want you to hear about.

Do you think the news is false or dame up on the major news neworks? I love you leftists, always a conspriacy or a cover up with you. Perhaps Sadam and UBL own stock in Foxnews, and that's why they've been starting all this trouble to make some money. Let me guess, your one of these people who believe we never landed on the moon too.

The news media reports the truth, to their knowledge. Of course there are things that are kept from the media, any fool knows that. But what is being suggested on this thread is that the media keeps the truth away from us, or alters the truth to get ratings. I don't believe this is true as far as news coverage is concerned, by respectable media outlets. There are news shows, and talk shows that go for ratings, but actual news coverage IMHO does not

Hmmmm...fine rock chick backup singers!! :D:D
    I loved that vid.

even better, but not as overplayed......the vid to "Rock Me".

Great White does not deserve to be labeled and denigrated as a hair band. The only thing they had in common with "hair bands" were that they had long hair.

I put them in a subcategory with groups like Tesla that played gritty blues-rock without the pretentions of the *true* hair bands like Poison and Warrant and crap like that.

    RIP Ty

For the most part, I dont feel that MTV should be covering this anyway. As others have said already most of the kids listening /watching MTV these days have no clue to who they were...as far as the safety issues that the tragedy brings up, Im quite sure that the people who would be most directly concerned about it already know from the major TV coverage.

btw...MTV sucks. bring back Headbangers Ball!

    I love you leftists...

Leftist, eh? OK, if you say so. Personally, whatever you want to call me is fine because I don't care. However, it's your problem if you want to continually prove your ignorance on this BBS. I will say this however...I love you sheep!:D

...but actual news coverage IMHO does not

And this is where your humble opinion and mine differ.

Consider this: ever wonder why 90% of the world's media outlets (including TV, radio & newspaper) are owned by a whopping SIXmega-corporations?

You have to dig a little deeper than CNN and FOX NEWS if you want the truth. CNN is just feeding you what Ted Turner wants you to hear, and FOX NEWS is just feeding you what Rupert Murdoch wants you to hear. If you are satisfied with what they are telling you, fine. Go for it. I'm not.

Rock Me was so much better than "twice shy"

Yeah Great White doesnt quite fit the typical mold of the hairband. More rock than metal. They really got thrown in there with the hairbands after "The Angel Song" which was a departure from most of the other songs. I remember when Mark Kendall and the boys used to make some pretty good rock music. This is just sad.

As far as headbangers ball goes, when it ended pretty much so did MTV for me.

This is getting off track but...

There have been studies documenting not the liberal or conservative bias in the national media (assuming, of course, you left out Fox News), but rather the corporate bias.

It isn't so much about news not being true. In many instances, it is. However, it is about what gets reported and what doesn't. Networks, in particular, are loathe to do hard-hitting stories that feature one of their primarry sponsors as the villian. They also, more often than you can imagine, simply run a story from a company as news without getting corroberating or contrasting opinions on the subject.

The most common example of this is medical or scientific research. Every night, the national news does stories about new research into weight loss or disease treatment or some new medical procedure. What they almost never mention is who actually paid for the research and who sponsored the studies being done when, in reality, it was often the drug company who stands to benefit from the results of the "research."

Walter Cronkite said that the introduction of commercials during news broadcasts (they used to leave them uninterruped as a way to avoid the ratings war we have now with news) would be the death of broadcast news journalism. He was probably right.

Whoa. You learn something new everyday. I never knew that the news existed without commercials. When did this happen? (didn't find it in quick Internet search)

This is particularly true in business reporting. The whole 'pro-forma earnings reporting (aka "we could have made money but didn't" accounting) and overly optimistic projections were taken right from the company news releases -- spin and all.

Today we hear market projections from 'experts' and no mention is made of just how wrong they may have been the previous year.

If sports journalists were this lax, we'd be hearing how the Rockets won last night, (excluding three-point shots) and how they were well poised to make a run at the championship this year and for the next several years.

Non-commercial broadcasts have their biases too, of course. You'll rarely see a story on inefficiencies at public stations, or reasoned arguments for reducing funding for arts, or public services.

Quick point to make my post on-topic:

I can appreciate that Great White doesn't fit MTV's demographics anymore, but I think some of the criticism is valid given the bands history with the station. That would be criticism for not recognizing the tragedy more -- not the dubious link to it being racially motivated.
