From a value prospective this is very good, though from a roster perspective this seems more dubious, he's a tweener PF/C not unlike D-Mo, a better blocker to be sure, and heavier so he's not as likely to be thrown around, but other then that he does things basically D-Mo does and not as well (they can both shoot, but D-Mo has a better post move and much better ball handler, and neither is really going to crash the boards. though Tim's a little bit better maybe.) Still, if you can prove that he's a useful role player, then at the price the team's signing him at he makes a super valuable piece for someone at least. you can just take a look at the disaster that is the Lakers right now to see how sometimes the lack of a quality role player can hurt more than the value brought even by a super star.
Thought the same myself, like it's some huge event I suppose it is to Ohlbrecht.. Was there an announcement at the RGV game for his "first-ever Gatorade Call-Up to the NBA?" I wonder if he got a trophy. Perhaps they've been watching too much Eastbound & Down.. Good luck to the guy.
Until they actually call him up to the Rockets, I'm just going to assume that they did this in order to solidify the RGV roster; RGV has 17 games left and the standings are so tight right now, they're the second seed right now, but there's only 3 games separating them from the 9th place team (out of the playoffs). The Rockets in the past few years have shown absolutely no remorse in signing players specifically to help out the D-League team during the stretch run; think back to Mike Harris and Damian Saunders. In the few games I've seen of the Vipers, Timmy has been the reason why they look good; while I struggle to see him as an NBA talent, he's the steadying force on that team, and just looks and plays huge at that level.
This guy can also shoot from long range. We could easily use him at PF we need him there. I thought he looked great with the Vipers, I will not be surprised at all if he starts getting some minutes with the Rockets. He has more bulk than D-Mo, and he has a more developed offensive game than Smith.
easy boss, we just need a 3rd center at the league minimum. high upside and potential are lovely bonuses.
