Why do you think that Morey is in a win now mode? Realistically he has at least 3 years before Houston's core reaches their peak. And there is nothing about trading MM and PPat for "future" assets that says win now to me.
Nope. Josh Smith at Max contract price will kill this team's ability to win a championship. He'd be what Boozer was to the Bulls and what Amare is to the Knicks.
i do believe that this would be a non-Morey type of move, and i hope he proves us wrong. As for Pau Gasol, i can't see LA moving him for a can of beans, even at that price tag. And even if they do, i don't see them making the deal with Houston. We essentially gave up all of our expendable assets in that deal for T-Robinson.
1st, you are wrong about the A'mare comparison cause Josh still has good knees. and 2nd, Josh Smith does 1 thing that those 2 guys are awful at, and that is defend. Josh would immediately make his defensive presence felt, especially when you pair him with Asik.
"“Our goal is to improve our team now and set ourselves up to be a championship contender,” Morey said. “We want to get back to being a title contender. That’s our No. 1 goal. We’re not there yet.” -Daryl Morey There you go, and you are welcome.
We'll be able to absorb most of Pau's salary which is far more than anyone else that will likely be interested can offer. The Lakers are set to pay big time if they don't shed some salary for being repeat luxury tax offenders, so I have no doubt they will be looking for huge savings when they unload his contract. Terrence Jones + our cap room would be more than enough IMO. I don't think you'll see anyone else offering anything close to that. I agree with you, but I think Morey will make a lowball offer of $10-$12 million and see if he bites. Someone will probably go full r****d and offer him the max, but if they don't I think Morey will take a chance on him.
it just sucks cause we really need an athletic 4 who can defend, block shots, and help us in the paint. Are we really going to wait and hope and pray that T-Robinson is going to be that player? that'll take 3-4 seasons. I don't think Morey is willing to wait that long.
nor was rashard lewis, Eric Gordon, Kevin Love, the list goes on and on. sometimes you've got to pay, to play. and we need a running mate to pair with Harden, Soon. preferably one who can help Asik in the paint.
i'd Love Kevin Love on this team, except for the glaring issue, bro can't defend a lick. Houston is one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA, this is not going to change unless we get a 4 who actually CAN defend.
Uhmmm. No thanks. There is no indication of a timeline in that statement. Or any indication of urgency. My guess is that Morey is on a 2-3 year plan. T-Rob, played correctly, could become a huge trade chip by summertime. But there is no way that the Rockets are going to be going after a championship until their core players get closer to their NBA peaks. And you know how much Morey likes his flexibility. No Josh Smith at max salary will be coming to Houston. Especially when there is a possibility that D-Mo might have him coming off the bench in a year.
In two years, DMo could be just as good with a small percentage of Smith's price-tag, and locked up for a couple more years beyond that. I like Josh Smith, but he's not Houston's only shot to be a contender. We have a chance to get there by developing our own talent and continuing to make smart moves. Yes i think Smith would make us one of the better teams in the west next year, but i don't think he makes us Miami or OKC.
you really think D-Mo has that sort of potential? you are probably the only one. I can't knock your optimism, but he's a rotation player, at best. We need an impact player.
i dont think josh smith is enough to put us over the top. we will be stuck with that team for the next couple few years and i dont see that team winning a ring. we need a player on the level, or close to the level of harden. who will be able to raise his game to superstar status here and there during the playoffs. josh smith does not have that capability.
he gets us closer to Miami, OKC. Harden is just entering his prime, if we pair him with another star, that growth will only be accelerated. Considering Josh's unique skill set, it's likely that this team would skyrocket to another level. Josh can play off the ball, and he impacts the game on the one end that Houston desperately needs, Defense.
I'd want him. But not for MAX money. And I wouldn't want plays to be run for him unless it was an alley-oop play or plays up close, PnR, etc. Don't want him shooting jumpers, never was his forte. And he has a limited offensive arsenal. He'd be great in transition. Having him will make the Rockets a "NO-FLY-ZONE" cause Asik will also be patrolling the paint with him. He's a decent rebounder. He's also a good passer. He could actually fit in well with the Fantastic 4. Harden-Lin-Parsons will still have to take leadership in terms of scoring. Smoove taking a lot of shots may cost us games. Asik-Smith will be the blue collar leaders. Rebound, defend, blocks, steals, hustle. It could work, but it shouldn't be expensive.
