Don't you just love it when someone asks you what your Spanish-speaking country of origin is? Countless number of times I have been asked this question even after a small conversation where it is somewhat obvious from my almost-perfect English accent that I was born in another country. I have even been asked by people who already knew that I was an immigrant!! In their defense, they probably just do not know the difference in semantics between "nationality" and "ethnicity". For you Caucasian people out there, if you are speaking to a Hispanic or Spanish-speaking person that has no semblance of a foreign accent and curious of their racial make up, ask them "What is your country of origin?" or "From what Spanish-speaking country is your family?"!

I just ask them where I can get a good plate of fajitas. All I get are blank stares. Maybe I should ask about churros or something?
Question: If I'm walking in a mexican neighborhood and I hear "...Orale!!!", should I be scared. Yes or no?
Most people don't think I'm Hispanic even though I have a Spanish surname. It doesn't bother me since I get to blend in easier, I guess.
QDoubleA, They could either be telling you "right on, brother!" or "hurry it up, black dude!" ... it depends on the context. Former: http://youtu.be/287k0JYwTO4?t=42m47s Latter: http://youtu.be/287k0JYwTO4?t=54m52s (although he says "andale, andale", you could substitute "orale, orale" in there... means the same thing) ... brotha.
One of my coworkers is constantly asking me how to make Mexican dishes like salsa, mole, etc. Mother****er I don't know! I swear I've told him at least 5 times that I don't cook.
I know...! This is why there are like... NO Mexican restaurants around here... am I right?!?!?
