29 pts and 9 TOs? I think he's referring to Harden.

Harden goes many nights of 5-20 shooting, and he's top 3 in TPG. McHale let himself be influenced by classic SAS' marginal comments on Lin

I think the majority of people who blame coach for our losses and use the phrase McFail are mostly LOFs, the main ones in the game threads complaining every time lin is taken out the game are generally LOFs. its like they expect Lin to play 48 mins a game.

James Harden, Jeremy Lin and the rockets are overachieving despite Kevin Mchale. The future is bright for the Houston Rockets.

Well that's not how management looks at it and that's all that counts.

    @dmorey
McHale 4 Coach of Year: Rockets on 45 win pace&R least experienced team ever (~2000 min/plyr b4 season). Next 9 (~3000 min/plyr) win 30 gms

So McHale says this about Lin (2.9 TO/Game) but did he make the same comment about Harden (3.7 TO/ Game)? It seems to me that he's ok with Harden's making turnovers since Harden is hitting the HR's as he puts it...

What really irks me is the extreme use of hyperbole by McHale.

Lin is the only player I see on a regular basis that is consistently willing to give up the ball to another player. Night in and night out. Its not even a matter of conjecture.

For McHale to feel the need to stretch the limits of what Lin is or isn't doing that is so disturbing.

"He feels the need to score 50 and have 25 turnovers". Yes this is extremism but isn't it kind of what McHale did? Lets all be honest...When you watch the Rox, do you see that type of mindset coming from Lin? No of course not. If anything I get more frustrated in him not being aggressive enough when he does have the ball in his hands.

Also McHale seems to want to push the idea that Lin isn't about winning, that he is more about stats. I believe this is his way of trying to pressure Lin back into his early season role of camping at the three point line and waiting around for Harden to do whatever.

I find it ludicrous that he is harping on a PG for averaging less than 3 turnovers a game, which is a tad on the high side for a Starting PG. But doesn't seem to have the same concern for Harden for averaging damn near 4 turnovers a game as a SG. Where is McHale's sense of team in this? Up until the Rockets finally beat the Grizz to end that horrible losing streak Harden shot an abysmal 20-81 in a 4 game stretch. Did Harden have to sit 4th quarters even though for 4 games in a row he didn't make more than 5 shots in a game and averaged taking over 20? Where was McHales critique then?

So far we have had a few players speak out publicly on how the offense needed to incorporate everyone and not just Harden...where was McHale's public critics then?

Right now I would hate to be J Lin. I have watched Rockets basketball for over 30 years and I can't remember a time where I felt one player was son wrongfully treated by our coaching staff. They have put Lin in a position to fail. First you misuse him, then when he constantly works on his game and starts to do better and get more aggressive you publicly roast him.

If Im Morey I would have McHale in my office immediately and tell him to zip his pie hole, just the same if it were a player doing the same thing.

not true.. huge rockets fan here.. and i think most people that have been rockets fan for awhile now realize mchale is probably the worst coach we have had in quite some time. He genuinely seems like a nice guy but the he has never been a winner and even he admits he doesnt really run any kind of offense.

Just look at our past coaches... Jeff Van Gundy, Rudy T, Rick Adelman.. all of them are way more acomplished and better coaches than Mchale. we definitely have a huge downgrade when it comes to coaching compared to past Rocket coaches.

Except you did take my words out of context. Re-read again, but I'm not going to bother with this.

Also, Battier plays PF for the Heat, so I don't know what you are talking about. Battier does what the team needs.

you should stop argue with people who thinks Lin should only be a play maker when harden sits.

There's has only been 6 games in which he shoots below 25% and that is considered "many"?

I agree with McHale. Lin needs to distribute and facilitate the offense, and he needs to improve his shot selection. With time Lin will settle into the offense and wont be a problem.

Why is everyone overreacting so much?

Quote is from NY paper and is such a singular line. Maybe McHale meant something but said a word off. Maybe the reporter misheard. Maybe the reporter took one line out of context (even has an implied "Lin" in the line) for more sensationalism.

I read something like this, and honestly react with a "Right... who gives a ****." You guys should too.

“Sometimes he’d rather have 29 points and nine turnovers and I tell him, ‘Jeremy, we’re trying to win,’ ” McHale said.

Hopefully that was taken out of context by the media.

We all know that Jeremy is all about unselfish team play to get the Win, and not about personal stats.

Interestingly enough, McHale does not say that about Harden, who currently scores alot of points and has the third highest turnovers per game in the NBA and is not even a point guard, but a shooting guard.

    http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/Turnovers.jsp

I think the difference is that for Harden, his personal stats is important for the future of the team. Don't get me wrong. I think Harden is an awesome player and an unselfish player. But I think the Rockets want Harden to maintain his All-Star scoring stats (even with the high turnovers) so that the Rockets become attractive to another strong player in the future. Harden is the franchise player that will hopefully attract another All Star for the Rockets.

Are you saying he is not distributing and facilitating the offense, and not in the flow of the offense right now?

    Lmao

Coach tells a young TO prone PG to play less recklessly so he has less TOs.

How is that anything to even make an issue about?

    20+ pages, really? Clowns

Yeah, and if the Rockets miss the playoffs again, then management won't be there to look at anything anymore, because Ownership will have fired them.

This team is overachieving with its roster, because at the beginning of the season the roster was pretty dismal, and the youngest in the league. But let's not all lose sight of the fact that the Rockets have missed the playoffs, and are at risk of losing it again (if the Lakers keep on playing well, and if they lose games to the Wizards like they did yesterday).

You can bet that Les Alexander will not be content with missing the playoffs for another season.

You could make the argument that Morey "inherited" a team that was riddled with injuries to its star players. But the best GMs in the NBA just reload quickly.

That is a load of crap. Lin takes the least shots in the starting 5 outside of Asik. If anything, Lin only takes good shots, and is too conservative. His home-run passes/plays have been on target more than not, and PPP based on those have been good.
