A college roommate of mine worked summers for his father's business. The drains at the bottoms of sewage tanks get blocked, and they would call them to unclog them.

He would wear a full body suit and head gear, jump in the sewage tank, and have to reach in the drain to pull out the many obstructions.

    It is hard to imagine...

I go to Sonic alot, and I see male carhops. I don't think bad of them. Just give me my damn food, and go away. I drop them a tip, and then make them go away.

$1.75? Were you an illegal alien or was this back in the '50s?

Btw, your experiment wasn't too bad. One I inquired about but did not participate in required you to wear a rectal thermometer for 3 weeks (I think they gave you an hour break per day).

I worked temp entering data about people's occupations. I had to interpret what they wrote and put it into a BLS category. One guy who worked in a meat-packing plant wrote that his job was to pick up meat that had fallen, clean it off and put it back on the conveyor belt.

I also had a job as a lightbulb changer. It wasn't disgusting and not exactly embarrassing, but it didn't look too impressive on the old resume.

I was a research subject at this exact same place when I used to go to U.T. Easy way to get some meal money for the week.

But, drapg, you make sense as a research topic. I assume people are always studying you... whether you know it ... or not.

I'd call it more judging than studying.

Wow. I went from 1979-1983. I'm surprised that place is still in business.

    Hmm... Now I'm curious.

They're doing the same experiments over the past 20 years. What kind of slow-ass research project is this and exactly WHO is funding it.

Suddenly this reeks of some individual in academia or company taking research grants and skimming off the top while creating a dummy project that never ceases to exist!

It was 1975, I was 15 and they knew it. So while I wasn't an illiegal alien, I was an illegal worker. Though I think the minimum wage was $2.10 back then and there were guys there making that and trying to support a family. And yea the "experiment" wasn't too bad. They asked me to do one when that one was over, but it required hospital stays and scraping of your nostrils which "may cause some discomfort" - ahhh...No thanks. I'm still trying to get rid of the images of how you can keep a rectal thermometer in that long...If that doesn't make you pucker...

    Cohen,

I really didn't want to start another thread, so I guess here is as good as a place to say this:

I want to thank you for your post in the "Free Nomar" thread. You are someone that the more I read here, the more I think highly of.

    Take care, my friend.

One Christmas I worked for Honey Baked Hams during their busy season. It was sort of an assembly line where someone would glaze the ham, hand it to me, I would scrape the glaze off the ham, and then hand it to somebody else to wrap the ham. That's all I did all day, scrape glaze off of the front of hams. I lasted about 3 days.

Q738RP0358 to Q992PI8723 -- we have two subjects that have left the grid. copy?
repeat: two subjects are off the grid.
subjects: code-named "drapg" and "Rocketman Tex." copy?
recommend: initiate destruct sequence from their bio-implants.
repeat: this is a code amber84. no drill. amber84.

    roger. 5 seconds to initiation...

My wife and I were walking around the lake of our new subdivision last week. There is still a lot of construction going on. I saw what I consider a horrible job. Some dude had a huge hose and was sucking out the crap and piss of a Porta-Potty and sending it into a tanker truck.

    Manny,

    No problem.

I have high regard for your presence on/contributions to this li'l community. The post I responded to almost knocked me off my chair. I guess you never know how people may interpret posts or what they may fixate upon.
