That's too bad that you've had bad luck with getting tickets in the fast lane. However, your refusal to yield to those tailing you is causing congestion and road rage. You can act high and mighty by standing by your principles because you are legally correct, but you can also be a safe driver and get out of their way so that they don't cause a risk to you on the road. Congestion causes traffic and accidents. Try not to worsen it.
What pisses me off in Houston is the area on 59 and 610, going south, where it takes a left to right SLIGHT curve And all these ****ing soccer moms and various other kinds of peons get so scared and have to hit their brakes just to take a slight curve Wtf are they so scared about?! Just take the turn at 70 you moron
You want to obey the speed limit signs but you don't want to obey the "Slower traffic keep right" signs?
I think you guys are blaming the wrong person. Instead of pointing out the driver going the speed limit not getting out of the way fast enough, you need to examine the tailgater impatient and angry enough that can't wait for them to change lanes or themselves wait for traffic to open up to go around. And when they get past, they are intentionally going slower for imagined slights. Yes, if your going below the speed limit, you should probably GTFO of the left lane. If your going 10-15 mph over the limit you still run into people I described above. These are the same drivers that cut 4 lanes to pass up one car in rush hour, while cutting off cars each time making them brake suddenly and that ripples out to cause slowdowns.
Actually if Azadre is maintaing the legal speed limit and not driving below it he is still in the right. As others have mentioned both the right and left lanes are governed by the posted speed limit in all cases. If he was driving below the speed limit he would be at fault. What isn't really apparent when you see those signs in the states that post "Slower traffic keep right" is the rest of the statute behind that sign that generally states "if traveling below posted speed limit" when speed of traffic flow is concerned in the various statutes for that particular law. Texas uses the other variation of the "keep right" sign which is posted as ""left lane for passing only". Oddly enough unlike a good deal of the other states this law is not a default for all multi-lane roadways in Texas. It is up to the discretion of the "Texas Department of Transportation" or "a local authority" (as it reads in the statute) as to where this law is in effect...which basically means unless that sign is posted there is no "keep right/passing lane" law for that particular stretch of roadway that you are on in effect.
This. And this. I was just driving home on 59S. Nobody was behind me and I was driving a steady 80mph in the left lane. Hardly any traffic, so plenty of lanes and space for slower drivers to occupy. All of a sudden the Jeep in the lane next to me a couple of car lengths ahead signals and gets into my lane. WTF! There was nobody in front of him yet he casually gets in front of me and drives 70. Moron.
Yeah, this can also be true. Aggressive speeders weaving around traffic are just as ****ty a driver as the under the speed limit car in the passing lane.
I take it not a lot of people here have driven through Oklahoma. From what I saw for the majority of the state, they have this same statute and people actually followed it. Two lane highways and everyone was in the right until you needed to pass someone. No one was camped out in the left lane for extended periods of time. It's the one thing I did enjoy about the state
I think that is ok then. What causes problems for everyone is those that think because they are doing the speed limit they have a right to stay in the left lane. You get 2 speed limit drivers driving side by side and it causes traffic to bunch up.
like someone mentioned earlier..you will see a driver in the middle lane get this sudden urge to move to the left lane even though nobody is ahead of him...i just don't get that.
It's not only the people driving slow in the fast lane, but any lane except for the far right lane. If everyone just consistently passed the cars on their right and yielded for faster traffic behind them, there would be no traffic. If assholes don't cross the solid white lane and instead wait for the dash, traffic would flow better. If people drove on the urban freeways with at least the length of an 18-wheeler between them and the car in front of them, there would be no traffic because people could easily merge in front of you and be on their way. This is especially true in slow moving rush hour traffic. I just leave a 18-wheeler gap at the minimum and let my car roll, hardly touching my brakes. And then I use simple science logic when going uphill on these overpasses and let gravity work, while I see people slam their brakes for no reason. Driving can be hilarious if you just want the decisions people make.
The Pierce Elevated when it goes in that slight dip around Allen Center is another one. Every time I use it, dumbasses are always braking so damn hard. Like seriously, just take your foot off the gas and let gravity work for you.
this is another section of houston that people forgot to drive the speed limit at least. http://goo.gl/maps/lLVj0
The signs on I45 often say slow traffic keep to right. Usually it says something about deaths on Texas roads and missing old person with dementia.
