Timing is the most important factor to play against a tight zone defense. The point guard needs to pass the ball to the center as soon as possible before the defense collapses on him. Being our point guard always looks to score first then pass, we lose those few seconds opportunities and make it much more difficult to get our big man involved. Imagine a quick pass to Yao before the defense collapse on him. When it does come, a quick dish out to an open man out in the perimeter, and with some more ball movement around the arc, BANG, a wide open shot. And thats real basketball.

Was it good coaching or just a natural maturation of Kobe as he grew up? Phil Jackson's a good coach, but he's had MJ the greatest player to ever play the game, and Shaq, the most dominant center of this era...

to francis 4 prez. I love Franchise heart and big plays but the reason why everyone gets down on him even after this kind of vituoso performance is because this is the exact same kindof play that has put the Rockets in such a quagmire this year, G's get hot win the game, they get cold we lose the game. Wins and Losses are dictated by the flow of the Guards, and when they do well, we win, when they dont we lose. It's gone both ways this season and thats why we're only a few games above .500. See, Houston can play like this all they want for the entire East Coast swing and we will probbaly pick up more wins than losses, but thats because of the nature of the game in the Eastern Conference, when they come back to the Western Conference which is where the real contenders are, they will fall flat on their faces sticking to this kind of guard dominated basketball. It's not about Franchise hating, it's about sticking to the things that made us successful in the first place, which is winning with big men. A lot of people here have fresh memories of what Dream did for us, so you'll have to pardon them for wanting to stick with a formula that has worked in the past. I think Rudy is a great coach yb the way, I'm not too fond of his offense game plan, I think he needs to get a better offensive assistant or somethingm but he definetely should stay because the players play hard for him.

Rox got lucky tonight plain and simple. They will lose 9 out 10 times trying to play this way. If you think Francis and Cat can shoot like this everynight, then you're delusional.

maybe 5 out of 10. not good enough to make the playoff in the west anyway.

Okay maybe 9 out 10 times was stretching it, but u get the point. With 3 years of data already, it's already proven that this type of play won't get the rockets to the playoffs.

The guards were SMOKING RED HOT but we were still down by 15 just 7 mins before the game ended, remember? We should really thank boston for their starting to play like us while their guards were not as hot as ours. It is not just about Yao. It's about playing like a team.

Drew, I will kindly disagree with you here. I will look at the big picture.

Francis and Cat do not get hot like this very often, and having them as the centerpieces of the offense will ultimately doom the Rockets in the end, well, that is unless Mobley can make perimeter shots as often as Kobe does, but Cat rarely shows signs of that. Cat and Francis being the main men on the team, have resulting in the lottery every time. Use Yao Ming, because he gets other players involved in the offense, unlike only mobley.

Teams should not be getting away with fronting Yao Ming, but they do get away with it because the Rockets have insanely horrible dip-it-into-the-post passers. And the guards' overall passing skills are poor, which is why the Rockets are inconsistent.

So, we should ignore obvious problems in our offense just b/c we won?

Elliott03, have you really watched the game???? I watched all 4 quarters. My conclusion: we won, but we played ugly.

Knowing that every 'BIG win' will be followed by a 'Bad loss' is really depressing. Give Yao the DAMN ball!

Similar results from first Rockets Celtics game except Yao is bit off Steve and Cat is bit hot:

    Celtics 92, Rockets 101 (1-13-03)

    Y. Ming 32 4-7 0-0 2-2 0 6 2 0 2 5 3 10
    S. Francis 42 8-15 1-2 9-10 0 5 9 3 1 1 2 26
    C. Mobley 45 9-18 2-5 4-4 1 6 6 5 3 0 2 24

Celtics probably is THIS kind of game for Rockets. Yao's presence in the middle drew doubles and triples and forced them shooting 3s. As long as our guards are hot and their 3s are cool, we win a critical game. It is great we win in different ways. Suppose guards were getting balls to Ming rather than shooting by themself, I don't know this would be a win.

Great attitude about a predicted loss tomorrow night. I can only assume you are a fairweather Rocket fan. Your loyalty towards the team has been exposed...

You dont have to worry about the problems. Nothing you do or say will have an impact in any of the future games. Just enjoy the wins.
