These some guesses how DM was able to pull off this deal. First, coaches might have told Petrie that Robinson had limited upside. Why he didn't shop him around is mind-blogging though. Second, Morey might have convince Petrie that PPat would do wonders for DC psyche (former teammates). Sell that team chemistry idea. Sell the idea that DC would be happy, productive and eventually resigned w/ Kings. Third Morey probably presented plenty advance stat for PPat to try seal the deal. Hate his rebounding numbers, but I hope everyone admits PPat did have nice jumper. I totally could imagine DM sending Petrie a PPat highlight video.
The Rockets are unusual in that they are one of the few teams that willing to take on salary and which is also not capped out (LAL, NYK, for example would prob take on salary but are capped out). Then the non-capped teams like Charlotte prob don't won't to take on salary because they have lower revenues than us. In essence we bought TRob for the pro-rated difference in salaries (approx. $1million) plus the extra $1million we gave Sac. Gotta credit Les for being willing to do this. Even if you consider the other range of teams that would have also pulled the trigger on this, many don't have the contract flexibility or intangibles (Patterson/Cousins connection) that Sac would be looking for.
This is the first time i have seen this. Morey's nickname is barracuda in this house. End of discussion.
"That's what this trade was. Houston dealt lukewarm spareribs, overcooked chicken wings and soggy egg rolls for a piping-hot dish of kung pao chicken."
It'll be a sad day for the Rockets when the Kings are officially sold off to Seattle. The new owners will probably clean house and all those guys that Morey has fleeced again and again over the last couple of years will all be gone.
Maybe they know they will be cleaning house regardless of this trade considering their lack of success in the last several seasons. Ownership just wants to save money and get someone that can contribute now while they still own the team.
How can they not have shopped T-Rob around? That makes no sense. They passed up Lillard and Drummond for Patrick Patterson? Makes. No. Sense.
So many people complain about Les Alexander and Daryl Morey around here. Can you imagine if those people were Sacramento fans? Can you imagine if they were Milwaukee fans? Can you imagine if they were Minnesota fans? We're really lucky to be Rockets fans.

The more I examine this trade, the more apparent it is that Morey just RAPED two front offices. Even if T-Rob doesn't pan out, this trade works on so many levels. We cleared a log jam, jettisoned scrubs, acquired more cap space, grabbed a pick, stole a 2012 top 5 draft pick . . . it just goes on and on. What a coup.
Simmons is being kind of silly here. While this trade was a Rockets win and I'm glad Morey made it, it's not the lopsided reaming it's being made out to be. If you were to re-draft the last draft now, Robinson would be lucky even to go in the lottery. He still has upside (and thus, more residual trade value than what we gave up) but having seen him for 2/3 of a season, it's more likely that he's a bust than a valuable contributor. In the meantime, we lost a guy who was more likely to help us in our playoff hunt than the guy we got back. Like I said, I'm happy we made the deal. We reset the clock when we traded an asset with value for one more year (Patterson) for an asset with value for three. Robinson still has big-time potential, even if he never puts it together. We've got guys comparable to Patterson on the roster already, and it's worth giving up one of them to take a swing at getting a star. But this is not nearly as skewed as it seems.
Could somebody please educate me why the name "Dork Elvis"? English is not my first language, so please bear with me.
It's not because he looks like Elvis as much as the way he was being mobbed at the Dork Events such as high-level stats conferences at MIT - he was as POPULAR as Elvis, the King of the Dorks, that is how the name got started.
