I guess we'll take a look and probably cut him even before the season's over. Morey prefers to use roster space to take a look at players signed to minimal contracts non-guaranteed in the coming two years.
I saw a lot of Tyler's games at UCLA the kid is plenty athletic and offensively was talented (shoot, drive etc) and he had really good court vision as well with his passes. Because of his athleticism and length he was also one of the better defenders they had. Basically I felt that he had the potential to get a triple double in a game. Now the bad? He did have poor handles, his decision making was slow - meaning he would see a play develop but would not make the pass until it was too late. He was very unassertive - at times he was the best player on hte court for the Bruins but would not take the shot or drive in to the hoop. He would settle a lot and seemingly 'coast' in games. Honestly I havent seen him a lot in the NBA - he has the talent and skill to be a very good guy off the bench for 10-15 minutes a game - but I dont think he can be any better than that unless he keeps developing. The Rockets are better at developing players than the Kings are so maybe there is a chance, but its unlikely he sees a second NBA contract after his rookie one IMO
Really not understanding why the Rockets would go after Rip... Rip is old and past his prime, this is a young team trying to build on something. Rip needs to be with the Spurs or Celtics. T_Man
Honeycutt was one of those guys who was drafted strictly because he looked the part of a high upside SF. In workouts he looked the part going into the draft even though he had very little technical basketball skills. In college he got by contributing on the boards, and cleaning up around the basket on sheer athleticism... not in the NBA or even the D-League. He is one of those athletes that really should have chosen to go out for football. Just not a skilled enough player to make it professionally as a wing player. As a 4 he's just not big enough to make an impact. For the Rockets, he was a low risk trade filler who was worth taking a look at for a few weeks. If they dont like what they see in the next couple weeks they can go after someone in Europe or the D-League instead. No harm no foul.
Honeycutt is 6'8 and 185 lbs. He has trouble putting on weight for BASKETBALL. What position in football could he play? Even as a WR, the first time he goes over the middle he would be blasted into smithereens. You are crazy.
I think it depends on what you want their role to be. Outside of parsons, we dont have a good perimeter defender. If he projects as a battier/thabo player he really wont put monster stats. I think he could be a good pickup.
Ive never put the guy on a scale or anything, but if he is 185 it must be the most solid 185 Ive ever seen. I dont see why this is so "crazy" of an idea. Lots of these athletic guys in the 6'5 to 6"8 range would be coveted projects in football. In the NBA they are a dime a dozen. As someone who played organized football and basketball all my life I can tell you that the training is completely different. Its almost impossible to go through a quality football offseason workout program and not add significant bulk.
