    Shaq is on crack...

Granted, I like Amare's game...err...the way he dunks...

Yao has done more for this team as a whole and with all the US/Intl' pressure on top of everything else...err...not getting the ball enough from his own team...

Anyway, Shaq's just mad because he's gotten spanked once and was too scared to come out and play...

    Can't wait for Yao-Shaq II, unless he's too much of a girl...:D

no contest... yao has had to deal with alot more in his rookie year and still produces better numbers. His potential outweighs amare's and in the next few years this debate will be laughed at.

I think ya’ll are confusing racial bias with nationalism and ethnocentricism. I think if Yao groomed his game in the Oakland courts and became a HS legend like Lebron there would have been little resentment about him being the #1 pick (remember Jay Williams spewed crap), the endorsements, or the all-star selection. Heck, Lebron, like Kobe when he sucked his first couple of years, is going to get deals before he ever steps foot on court with quality competition. Let us see if the similar bias and backlash is delivered to Lebron—I kind of doubt it, at least doubt the itensity and degree of it. In sum I think most of the backlash, which there is a lot of--anyone saying Amare is hands down the ROY is showing it--is because he is from a foreign place, groomed in a foreign place, doesn’t even speak the language, in other words he is foreign and an outsiderto them.

He wasn’t the most sought after draftee since Tim Duncan because he was from China, it was because of his skills and size. This just can’t be denied. I think the fact he is from China (not that fact he is of Chinese decent) has brought him more attention, both good and bad. However, sorry, any 7’6” guy with his skill and finese is going to get a lot of attention.

IMO, yes Malone was probably a harder worker than Hakeem. But no matter how hard someone works, be in Yao or Amare or Malone—they probably don’t have the innate abilities of Hakeem that allow him to be the superior player. I certainly like the odds of Yao impacting the game the way Hakeem did, or maybe even more, than Amare's however.

Finally, as for ROY. Objectively, it is Yao right now. Not by a lot—but it is certainly a clear edge. Yao’s stats are better, his team has improved more, and he doesn’t play right next to an all-star to take the pressure off. Amare would have taken ROY Mike Miller’s year, but not this year, barring major changes on how they are playing right now. IMO there may be some backlash—but league will not want the ROY to not go to Yao simply because of prejudice and will try to keep that from happening. In general I think the league is OK with Yao getting some extra positive attention because of where he is from, but undeserved negative attention is the last thing they would want to allow--and I would agree with them on this.

Amare is Cato but takes it harder to the rack. He has one shot, the dunk. I have yet to see him do anything else.

Miles was suppose to be a very big all-star but I never really bought into all of his hype because let's be honest the guy is very athletic but he just isn't a basketball player. He can't shoot for jack, and sure he can dunk but that's about all he can do. Darius is a joke for a lottery pick, sure he is a legit 2nd round pick but for the fact that he was projected to be so good that makes him a bust.

Poor him, he doesn't even try to improve either. He's content with the way he is, he doesn't have the love for the game to work on it either in my opinnion.

This sounds like Amare too me.

Amare or Yao for ROY, wow!!! Making the Play-offs would mean a lot more to me.

As for the debate on who is the better player. Different styles of play, abilities and impact on respective team. Amare is an exciting, explosive type but Yao is an automatic mismatch for 27 of the other NBA teams. Amare is not.

Someone pointed out that defenses are geared towards suffocating Yao's influence on a game, Amare is not on the same level (yet?). Yao will drop 50 eventually on a team dumb enough to offer single coverage and if the guards give him enough touches.

Yao is a franchise player in the making, Amare is not there yet.

this is my opinion on this:

    1) its an AZ newspaper. say that on chron and they will beat the s___ out of shaq nad kobe.

    2) shaq has not had his shots blocked by amare:p

    3) kobe gotta go with his american players and thos who came out of high school like him and we know shaq is a clown. if you ask this question to dirk you know he is gonna say yao.

    4) the lakers suck

    I'll chip in with this:

Unless one or the other player slips significantly, the players will share ROY.

Last June, when Amare "hurt his shoulder" (*cough* B.S. *cough*) during the Phoenix workout and couldn't work out for other teams, having already destroyed Drew Gooden in a workout for the Rocks, I wish we had offered up Eddie Griffin and maybe even a 2nd round pick if necessary in order to land this guy. The Rox knew he would be something special. EG is...well, let's just say I don't think he's the next Jermaine O'Neal.

And yes, the brothers are gonna talk up another brother. Nothing evil about it, really, but the brothers see their own game, and one of their own, in Amare.

At a recent camp that Tracy McGrady gave, a kid asked, "What do you think about all the foreign players in the NBA?" Before he could answer, all the kids gathered in the audience were booing.

    There's your answer.

I think Amare will be a top 20 player next year but he isn't this year. I'd have to say guys like Karl Malone are better than him this year.

Although, Kobe's opinion on a player should ring pretty true.

Yao does not lack agression he lacks stamina.......i see him all time not making strong moves or picking his spots after he's been on the court for a while, trying to conserve his energy.....if he had more stamina id bet he'd be more aggressive like amare.....he'd block more shots, score more......

Yao has only one all-star(Francis) to support him, just because he himself is an All-Star. Yao is the ROY for sure since he is already an All-Star.
