    Question...

Would it be possible, cap-wise, to sign Josh Smith to a near-max contract in the summer, then do a sign & trade with the Lakers for Dwight Howard with a near-max contract, with Asik, Delfino, Jones, Donuts, and White going to LA?

    PG: Lin/Beverley
    SG: Harden/Anderson
    SF: Parsons/Morris
    PF: J. Smith/Patterson
    C: Howard/G. Smith

No it's not possible, and that's still giving up too much for Howard.

You seriously overestimate his trade value, especially if he isn't traded in the next 5 days. Basically the Lakers have 5 days to get SOMETHING for Howard or he walks and they get nothing. The only team that even potentially would trade him something of value would be the Nets because they'd have to in order to make the money work. There are maybe 4 teams at the absolute most with ANY interest in Howard, why give up a kings ransom? If the Rockets traded anything to the Lakers for Howard, they'd be doing them a favor. There is no way I'd even consider giving up Parsons OR DMo in a trade for him. If they want to take Asik, Douglas, Aldrich, and Patterson, fine, but I wouldn't offer them any more than that because there is no reason to.

I seriously doubt he is traded.

If he comes here, he comes here during free agency.

I really think he will be traded (probably here). In the end, Morey will decide a package built around Asik/Parsons is worth it. As well, Mitch K will wake up the few days and realize that Howard is going to leave LA.

Asik/Parsons/Morris/Aldrich is fair to both teams.

Why do people want him, with his back and attitude, we just need a back-up C.

Only way we can keep Harden and realistically acquire a player like Dwight is to buy when his stock is at its lowest.

It's a risk, but he wasn't even suppose to be playing until the All Star Break, so I'm willing to excuse the fact that he's only been playing like a top 5 center.

If he returned to form, we would have 2 elite superstar players on our team, both which could arguably be considered a top 7-8 player in this league. I'd like to find a way to keep Parsons though.

That's like paying 8 dollars for a 5 dollar sub from Subway. I mean sure you could do it, but why overpay?

Howard isn't getting traded, and even if he did it wouldn't be to us. We don't have the assets to acquire a player like Howard.

It seems a lot of people here drastically overestimate his trade value at the moment. There are probably only 4 teams max that have ANY interest in him, at the end of the year he walks for nothing. The ONLY team that might have ANY interest in him that can't just sign him as a FA is the Nets. There is not much incentive for those other 3 teams to throw the world at the Lakers to get Howard a few months early.

This isn't an Orlando situation. LA doesn't have to deal him. Just because there aren't many suitors doesn't mean he would come cheap. LA wants to keep him, so you'd really have to knock their socks off to even consider it.

Actually, it is an Orlando situation, Howard isn't going to stay on that train wreck of a team for 1.4 mil more per year. He wants off the Lakers and on to a contender so he has a chance to win a championship during his prime. The Lakers either trade him in the next 5 days, or they get nothing for him when he walks in the off-season. Other than the Nets, the other teams interested in Howard would be doing the Lakers a favor by offering anything at all.

Looks like Dwights personal "unofficial" mouthpiece might be trying to stir the pot again.

Can someone confirm that Lin and Asik don't make 5, 5, 14 mil for the Rockets? That would have been their contracts for their previous teams had they matched it correct? They make avg over 8 mil for 3 years no?

    They make 5,5,14.
They count 8,8,8 against the cap.

They actually do make that. However their average salary of 8.3mil are what's counted towards cap space. (Or at least I think that's how it goes). Gotta love Murray for finding that loophole!
