morey always drafts well. He has always had great eye for talent. Landing franchise level players sometimes is out of your hands. Morey is a legendary GM. A pioneer.
Morey is just constantly looking for young undervalued players to invest and hope they become valuable. Look at our roster now. 09ers are mostly history now. TD and Harden only. He's now onto the 10ers... Lin, Asik, PPat, James Anderson, Aldrich
I'm just a fan of peculiar occurrences and I find it very interesting how the Rockets had 0 picks in the 09 draft yet somehow ended up having 20% of the entire draft come through here within a 3 and a half year span.
Ehhhhh not always.... I love Morey, but he makes some pretty noticeable mistakes... Patrick Patterson over Larry Sanders, Eric Bledsoe, Avery Bradley could have gone better. Marcus Morris over Kawhi Leonard, Nikola Vucevic, Iman Shumpert, Kenneth Faried, and Jimmy Butler could have gone A LOT better. And can't say much about the 2012 Draft since it's too early and Lamb was apart of the Harden deal, but so far the Royce White pick looks like a serious bust that could have been used on Tyler Zeller, Jared Sullinger (though hurt), Jeff Taylor, even though it's a risk that was probably worth taking. Point is...he's solid, but not GREAT at drafting talent. He's been money on 2nd rounders though. Parsons may be his best pick yet.
Not only is Sullinger hurt but its his back, and that is what had the question marks. Your point stands though Morey is solid in first, but not great and could ask for better 2nd round picks. I haven't given up on Royce, that would have been like writing off mook last year. He's done a nice job this year though I hope he gets traded.
I wouldn't say Morey draft well because he did strike out a few... But with the Harden's case, Morey did a great job in organizing a deal for Harden. But I think at the beginning of the 09 season, it looked like Tyreke Evans was the rising star and Harden was still struggling to find his niche. But who would of thought Tyreke Evans peaked during his rookie year and since then, started to decline while Harden is slowly becoming one of the top players in the league.
I would pick Patterson over Avery Bradley and I would take Morris over Iman Shumpert and Jimmy Butler... But I wish Morey would have drafted Kenneth Faried though... Patterson isn't a bad player. He's a great pick for the 14th pick in the draft. But anyway, Morey isn't the greatest scout and he doesn't draft perfect all the time, but one thing is, Morey drafts better than half of the GM in the NBA...
Of course he's made some mistakes. He is a genius, not a clairvoyant. He's had more hits than misses, but misses are inevitable. But has he drafted an absolute bust yet? I can't think of a single 1st rounder he's drafted that hasn't at least stuck in the league. And it isn't even that uncommon for lottery picks to never see a second contract. And his record on 2nd rounders is nothing short of amazing. Landry, Budinger and Parsons? Are you kidding me? I really just don't understand this kind of argument. No. He hasn't been perfect by any means. THAT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE! But he's been absolutely stellar. And if that isn't obvious to you, then I'd like to point out that we're currently slated to make the playoffs with the youngest team in the league. Go ahead and do some research on how well the youngest team in the league usually finishes. It ain't pretty.
wow ...how the hell did Tyreke Evans win ROY? Well I already know the answer to that but damn...some of us thought he would be a legit all star and not an extremely low IQ chucker.
