http://goldengatesports.com/2013/02/13/potential-trade-scenario-barnes-vs-pierce/ could be great for boston when rondo is back. what do you think?
Few thing to note here- -Do the Warriors really need another wing scorer/shooter? -Do the Warriors really want to get rid of their best perimeter defender? -Do the Warriors want to get rid of a franchise building block(on a young team with a bright future) for a short term move that just gets them into the 2nd round? I think this is the sort of short sighted moves that GM's make that can keep bad franchises bad. This trade is strickly about making buzz in the national media and sacrificing young talent to just make the playoffs.
Leveraging the future for a sure-fire clutch player? I'm 50-50 on this. Pierce is exactly the kind of player GSW needs. Someone who can create his own shot and make plays when whatever Jackson draws up breaks down. Right now, that player is Jarret Jack - and he's been fantastic this year - but he won't get GSW deep into the playoffs. Curry has to weave his way around 3 screens to get an open shot and David Lee is a garbage man PF. Klay is just a pure shooter and Curry leans heavily in that direction as well. Instead of having a utility player in Barnes, having a creator/facilitator in Pierce would be a good fit. If this happens, Morey needs to coerce KG.
Not a legit source http://goldengatesports.com/2013/02/13/potential-trade-scenario-barnes-vs-pierce/ Uhh really? Go ahead and lock this.
The guy is playing his role well. Playing the opposing team's best perimeter player as a rookie and getting the job done well for the most part. And you want to trade him for a 37 year old Paul Pierce? The guy knows he has 2 all-star offensive players in Curry and Lee so why force his young offensive game now? I hope the Warriors do this, just to show how stupid they really are.
With their new ownership and West in their front office, they have actually made some pretty slick moves. Getting Jack and Landry has really helped them.
The Warriors are a Stephen Curry sprained ankle away from being an 8th seed or worse. Don't trade a guy with such a high ceiling for a 1-2 year rental for Paul Pierce.
Why will GSW do this though? And why is an over the hill Paul Pierce worth one of the most promising perimeter players in the NBA? If Boston can pull this off they'd fast track their rebuilding process, in fact they could be ready as early as next season. If GSW does this they'd become the 2nd worst FO int he league after Orlando.
You watched him play??? He's a pretty good defender on the wing - which is handy as a 6'8 guy. On top of that he has elite athleticism and a very nice shot all the way out to 3 point land. Ranks 6th in scoring amongst all rookies, which is actually very impressive considering that he's the 4th option on offense at the Warriors (Curry, Lee, Thompson then Barnes). The only knock on the guy coming out of college was that he might vanish in a big game (because he had a bad game in the tourney). Prior to that one game he was the consensus number 2 pick in the country, and (to be quite frank) the Bobcats should've taken him at number 2. If he was playing there, I imagine he'd be scoring 15+ppg and you'd be drooling over him.
