I dont mind the loss but we played right into their hands. There is NO WAY we can out shoot the Mavs. They are so deep and so many of their players can shoot, beat you off the dribble, pass and run the floor.

With that said, here is my strategy to beat the Mavs.

    1. Pound it inside to Yao
    2. Pound it inside to Yao
    3. Pound it inside to Mo and then Yao

The Mavs interior defense is weak. Granted, Bradley had 6 blks but if we continued to pound it inside early on, Bradley would have fouled out. My point is that you can not half heartedly attempt to go inside as a plan against the Mavs. Bradley had 4 fouls in 25 min. Lafrentz had 5 in 14 minutes. Better spacing would have also improved Yaos chances with his FGs as well.

Against the Mavs, we have to play a half court game. Outsmarting them will help too but I dont think that is gonna happen for years.

The Mavs are more talented than the Rox. That's nothing to be ashamed about.

    How to beat Mavs?

Simple, when you have a guy like Shaq who can dominate them in the paint, and have a guy like kobe can shoot consistent jumper when Shaq is doubled or tripled. After all, Mavs is weak in the paint and if you can do inside – out consistently, they will crash.

Or, you have deep team like Kings and move the ball even better than Mavs, and have equally deep bench and just little tougher in the paint will make you defeat Mavs.

Other than that, I don’t how to beat Mavs, because they shoot crazy like Celtics and made much more shots.

    1. We did pound it inside, the Refs were letting the players play aggressive and its Yao's 3rd game in 4 nights, he didn't have the goods. But I'm extremely happy that a game like tonight would be his "offnight". We aren't where we were with hakeem in his prime when we would be mad at anything under 30 pts a game but we're getting there.

    2. We do need spacing but seriously, its as much of Yao's problem as the rest of the team. Centers are suppose to create space by pushing their opponents under their basket. Yao is more of a finese center, i remember him pounding into players and those players didn't even budge. I think we're using him wrong, seriously let him take the outside shots, do some pick and roll, play to his strength. I hope this isn't one of the concessions to the CBA where we have to "develope him and not just use him" demands that were floating around in the summer. Though in the long run, it might be more beneficial for Yao to learn to play a rogame where the refs let the players play like tonight, the short term growing pains hurts badly.

    3. Stop making the Rox send like they're dumb. They know a lot more about basketball then anyone of us. There's a huge diffrence between what u see on tv and what actually goes on inside the game situations. The Mavs played a zone, our inside game was shut down. Our best post players wasn't as consistent and our best attacker from out side was playing with a bad back, I think we took the best of actions considering we have anothe game tommorow, just my 2 cents.

Obviously they know plenty about basketball, but the player IQ on the court seems to be as low as their final score today. They can do way better about playing smart basketball. If you can outhink your opponent it should all be gravy after that.

Of course they are not dumb. They knew exactly what's the right thing to do as they did in the first quarter. The FG% in the first quarter was 60% if I heard it right. Then they just stop and went back to the old rockets again. Keep doing the right thing is not easy. It requires discipline, a consistent leader and a strong coach.
