If news breaks out about Dwight's back never fully recovering, then I agree on passing on him.

But otherwise, we absolutely need to jump on the train. I don't care if he's played poorly (by his standards) this year, I don't care if he's a douche, I don't even care if his recovery period is long (as long as he does recover).

This is a potential A-level move. Guys like Josh Smith, Millsap etc are B-level moves. We can make one of those without a problem, but we're not a title contender unless we make an A-level move - and those are very hard to come by.

With Greg Smith's play regressing to D-League level and now being demoted and Aldrich being nothing more than trade fodder in the Harden deal (nice job Sam Presti trading up to get this scrub--that's a championship costing transaction), it's obvious we need another competent big.

If we're serious about building a TITLE contender and not a 2nd round contender, we need to remain all in for Dwight Howard. We have no chance winning it all by being an average at best defensive team.

Interesting Question - Why aren't more people in the national media talking about a Dwight Howard for Asik + young talent trade???
    .......................................................................................................

I kind of wanted to create a new thread about this, but did hold back for the folks on here that are tired of talking about the Dwightmare. However I feel like its something important to talk about for the Rockets sake.

With the latest coming out today from the talking heads at ESPN(with even Dwights dad getting involved in the drama), I feel like the Lakers brass MUST be saying to themselves, can this situation possibly get any worse for us this year???

-I would have to say the answer to that queston is DEFINITELY yes. The Lakers could A. Miss the playoffs completely, and B. Have a big nasty situation on their hands this Summer if for some reason Dwight and his agent Dan Fagan prepare a scenario that allows Dwight to sign openly with either Dallas or Houston in free agency.

While I believe Dwight will almost certainly NOT give up the financial benefits of walking in free agency rather than re-signing in LA, the signs are there that Dwight is really putting alot of thought into securing a future super max contract this Summer either way.

I feel like time is against the Rockets & Mavericks as the two teams that have a chance at acquiring Dwight IF for some reason the Lakers decide in the next two weeks to trade Dwight if they feel like he's going to walk away this Summer.(Keep in mind the only teams that are in a place to offer max dollars in free agency last time I checked are Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Cleveland, and Phoenix) With so many moving parts in this deal, it would almost certainly be a deal that is currently in talks with both team right now as I write this.

Its only such a short period of time(less than two weeks) for such a mega deal to come to fruition that its hard to see it happening. However, stranger things have happened. I mean NOBODY saw Harden getting traded as fast as Presti did under the radar. Maybe GM's are getting better about keeping things under the table.

However, IF it happens, there isn't a team in better position to acquire Dwight than Houston. Mainly because the Rockets have A. the leverage(cap space to offer a max free agent) and B. They have Omer Asik to offer if the Lakers act NOW. They also have another trump card to offer in the form of young talent(Parsons, Jones, D-Mo, etc.) if they absolutely have to include one of those players.

Omer Asik alone gives the lakers a nice consolation prize if they are going to lose Howard. He's a double/double machine who can do all of the dirty work for this Lakers team in the paint who really only want Howard for these very reasons to begin with. Right now, he's really being used in the same way as Asik would be... even though Asik is better suited for this "Tyson Chandler" type of role.

-A good reason why the Howard experiment in LA isn't working out is because Howard is really pressing too hard on offense when he really would be better suited for being more of an "opportunistic" offensive player much like Asik or Tyson Chandler are. With so much perimeter offensive creativity flowing between Nash and Bryant, it doesn't necessarily put Dwight in the best situation to look to Hakeem Olajuwon on offense.

For Houston, the viewpoint should be this- It sure is a gamble to give up Asik, but was this core ever going to win a championship as is? However, would a healthy, productive, and happy Howard & Harden + role players have a chance at winning a title???.... Hell Yes it could. If last Summer someone would have asked Morey what he would give up to get both Harden & Howard next year with the ability to have Harden & Howard for 5 more years after this season he would have laughed at you and said.. anything and everything. So why are the fans so apprehensive about this deal?

The only thing that is missing is getting Dwight Healthy & back to his dominant productive self. Something that at his young age MUST be a real large possibility. I still think its a gamble worth making.

So why isn't this deal being discussed at least as a hypothetical possibility in the national media? Instead of this realistic scenario that works for both teams, the talking heads keep on bringing up something so ridiculous like the Brooklyn Nets acquiring him in free agency???

Didn't want Dwight after seeing his whole attitude change and the attention he got for being in the dunk contest and then the whole drama of crying for attention when he thought about leaving Orlando. Now this kind of crap, when Nash was clearly trapped he pulls the attitude out again. Would not want his whiny, crying tail on the rockets at all.

Meanwhile, Houston has become aware that DHo has become less attractive.

The only major difference is free throw percentage, but Dwight also takes twice as many free throw attempts as Omer. Add that to how often Harden gets to the free throw line, and any opponent we would face would be in constant foul trouble. The Rockets would probably set free throw records with Harden and Dwight.

I had a feeling I would get Homer responses to this, but I wasn't necessarily asking for a homer response, but merely asking why this isn't being talked about in the media both nationally and locally?

Its amazing to me that the talking heads aren't realizing how important the trade deadline is for the Lakers here in the matter of less than two weeks? Do they just not realize how important it is, or are they nieve enough to think that the Lakers aren't "listening" to trade proposals with the notion that they might have a change or heart at the last minute???

To me, its quite absurb. Seeing as though Dallas, and Houston are the only two teams with free agency leverage, its amazing to me that Dwight for Asik is not a bigger story both nationally and locally.... despite your opinions of how much better you think Asik is right this second.

I'd take, not even second guess it. Anyone who says no doesn't really want to see our team win consistently. The back worries me, we should be used to the prima donna attitude after having Stevie and Tmac, etc. To think after the last two years teams that Morey could end up getting both Harden and Dwight in one season...Morey would have seriously earned his pay check.
