I love Posey's D and athleticism, but from what I've seen, the long range shot is definetely not his forte. I've seen him kill some rallies a few times already with his extremely questionable shot selection. I could just be nit-picking of course, but I get that "he's gonna put up a bad shot" whenever he or Cat touches the ball. I get the feeling with Franchise also, but it seems he has a knack for making any kinds of shots which is what makes him special.
Man, that was a short honeymoon! Griffin had about 1 and a quarter seasons before getting criticized. Yao's honeymoon still isn't over. Posey's only been here a couple of weeks!
Although his shot has been off, he has shown that he can hit the big three. Also his defense more than makes up for his offense.
Well its not like I'm new to Posey, I've watched him play enough games, so I know what kind of player he is. He had to be da man in Denver and still only put up 14 a game with all his shots, the ball should never ever be in his hands during crunch time.
unless its from a steal... Seriously, no he isnt our crunch-time player...but I love his game and his defense....he has been in a bit of a slump last couple of games, but I think hes a keeper..
Why single out Posey? The whole team is 19th out of 29 teams in 3pt FG%. Posey is in part why the Rockets are 7th best at defending the 3pointer. Coincidentally, these two numbers are almost identical. At minimum, that's a wash to me.
hotballa, I don’t think you are nit picking at all. James Posey has played way out of control at times and I think it has hurt the team. I’ve seen him drive into the lane with out a clue and he does not have anything that resembles an outside shot. Starting with the Dallas game I thought he had about 7 games where he was just awful both on the defensive end and offensive end. On top of that it really pissed me off when I saw him lose his composer in the Dallas game and started playing dirty. On the plus side he has shown the ability to change the tempo of a game with his defense. He is quick and athletic and he looks good moving to the basket with out the ball. I am willing to give him until the end of the season (like I have a choice) before I pass final judgment on him but as of right now I would not give him much more than the minimum. If he asks for a big salary in the off-season then I would let him walk.
Yeah, let's blame Posey. It's not like the Rockets' guards are known for hogging the ball and not getting other players involved.
Even with his apparent shortcomings, I like Posey's game and what he brings to the floor every night. He is not one of our primary options, but that is not his role. Steve, Yao, Rice, Mo T and Cat rolleyes can put up the points. Posey defense is the main reason I like him on the floor. One other thing, he is an asset on the fast break. Runs like a gazelle and finishes nicely. He would be absolutely perfect if he could consistently hit the outside shot. But he and Rice are not a bad 2 headed small forward.
The minimum crash??? That's a bit harsh for someone who gives this team another dimension and could only get better. I'm not exactly enamoured by his game but I do like the spark he brings. If I'm the Rockets, I offer 3-3.5 mill...take it or leave it James.
James Posey is used to being the 2nd leading scorer on his team. He's not a natural shooter and on the Rockets, he rarely gets an opportunity to score. It's very difficult for a person who's not a natural shooter to touch the ball a couple of times in the game and then consistently make jump shots. He has a different role on this team and it'll take him awhile to adjust to it. Awhile back I debated HeyP about the K Thomas/J Posey deal. HeyP's position was that while he wasn't opposed to getting Posey, he preferred we waited until the offseason and sign him as a free agent. Im glad we get to "test drive" Posey now so we can determine whether chemistry exists. By getting him this season, we can also make a more educated estimate of Posey's worth to the team. The last thing we need is another bloated contract.
No way. Steve and Yao are better all around players, hands down. When you lack a consistent outside shot, how can you be a "best all around player?"
They guy can not hit and open shot and cannot finish a layup with someone in his face. He also turns the ball over everytime Yao passes it to him. On the offensive end, he sucks. On the defensive end, he is a little above average. What sets him apart is his rebounding. I would even say that Hawk is a better offensive player than Posey and a more consistent defender.
Dont forget he is our teams "enforcer" too ! Remember when he undercut Dirk last time we played D. I like the kid.. Granted, he isnt the most talented in the world but he does try very hard.
