saw it last year. first musical i've ever seen and i absolutely loved it. i was shocked by the crowd in attendance at my show. so many 55+ year old people in the audience laughing their asses off. i fully expected this show to have a niche audience of 20, 30, and 40-somethings. i was way off. i was also impressed with how they (IMO) walked the fine line b/t showing the ridiculousness while also showing the goodness in Mormonism/religion in general. never felt like it was too mean spirited at all b/c they showed the humanity and goodness in the Elders. oh and i have maggots in my scrotum.
I'll be going on Sunday! 2nd time in NY. Question, and I know I sound like a girl for asking this but can I wear jeans and a nice shirt, or do I need to wear slacks?
If you think about the most inappropriate thing Parker and Stone have ever done and double it, you are about halfway to the inappropriateness of this show.
Are you serious? I saw it and loved, and was surprised at how not inappropriate it was. I was expecting much worse. I thought it was even toned down compared to most of their stuff. That isn't to say it wasn't great. It was, but it wasn't overly offensive or anything like that.
I heard about it when it came out and have wanted to go but it's not like I go to NY often. So I'm glad to hear it's coming to Houston. When is that?
For "Book of Mormon" I'd suggest black slacks and a white button up short-sleeved shirt with a black tie.
Spoiler I think part of it might be me just not getting easily offended. I remember when the eff you God song was going on, that I thought it was going to be that level if not more the whole time. But the context of the song within the play somehow lessened the inappropriateness to me, but also I was laughing so hard, that a lot of the inappropriateness of it it might have just brushed by. The Jesus with the dildo scene was was funny, but I can understand how that one would be considered very inappropriate to plenty of folks. I just thought the whole show was going to be on that level.
so i went to the show site here in Houston for September, but I can't buy the tickets yet. Any idea when the tickets go on sale? do i have to purchase a season or mini-season pass to be able to buy tickets?
Absolutely the best thing they've ever created, and this is coming from a HUGE South Park fan. "Hasa Diga Eebowai" made me cry with laughter, as did " You're Making Things Up" and several others. If you don't have plans to see it or can't get there, you MUST at least listen to the album. So awesome.
Spoiler "**** you god in the ass, mouth, and ****", even if you're an atheist who's never offended like me, is easily the most inappropriate thing they've ever done. Hahaha.
I assume Houston is similar to Minneapolis. Generally, you have to buy a season ticket package or be a donor to get single show tickets early.
