Also, fatwallet.com is a great site for deals. Thanks for the tip on the free Cloud storage. I've not tried Cloud before... this may be a good time to see how it works.
I'm pretty sure Box.com gave me 50GB for free for signing up. **EDIT: Yep, I've used 2.5GB of 50GB so far.
Yep, I've gotten the free 50GB offer a few times now for buying different products. I rarely ever use my Box account though because of the file size limit.
Yeah this is what I really want. I was given just the normal amount they give out for free. It's OK for now, but damnit I want more!
Yeah, if you had SkyDrive before Windows 8 they grandfathered you in, IF you logged on and asked to be. They give codes out for free 100GB of storage at events from time to time... really hoping I score one eventually.
You're really telling the rest of us to frequent SlickDeals because he posted on CF for our sake... not his own. But I'm on CF all day and rarely go anywhere else so I appreciate OP posting it here instead.
Slick Deals is also filled with tons of useless crap, and if you think it is tough to keep up with posts on Clutch... see FatWallet or SlickDeals where they have tens of thousands of active users. I prefer... http://www.reddit.com/r/DealsReddit
I've had an active Hotmail account that I've used since probably 2004-2005, but I never utilized SkyDrive (or whatever else it used to be called). I didn't start using SkyDrive until I got my Lumia 920. And I created a new account (using Live.com) for that. And if you ever find out about one of those free give aways of storage place, let me know!
Damn, I some how missed that one. I think I have only 6.5 gb left on my skydrive. Been with that and hotmail forever. I think I just signed up with BOX when it was in beta or something. I like Box. I have full seasons of archer on there for my little sis, and pretty much all my work etc.
I have cloud storage out the wazoo. Can never have enough, right? I have bout 15 GB free on my SkyDrive, and I LITERALLY keep my entire Documents folder in there... years and years of data. I keep several TBs of movies on a redundant NAS at home. I have 120+ GB of music on Google Play, but I rarely listen to my own MP3s now that I have Xbox Music. I don't really see a reason to buy (or even pirate) music anymore when I can have everything I want for $100/year. With the exception of vinyl.
I like the concept of keeping files sync'd using Skydrive, but since there's no option to encrypt files, there's no way I'm going to put files I want to put on my Skydrive space (like Quicken files, tax info, etc) without being able to encrypt it. The other thing I hate is if I use something like a TrueCrypt container to encrypt the files, anytime the container changes the whole damn container gets re-uploaded. So if you have a 1 gig container and change a 2k file in the container, the entire 1 gig file gets uploaded. If MS could fix that one thing, I'd use it like crazy. DropBox is the only one that I think does the "differential" upload.
As far as your security concerns go, I've had Hotmail since 1997 and have never had an issue with security. Not once, and that was before it was even owned by Microsoft. My philosophy is, if there is a chance I'll be hacked it's going to be me that messes up, not Microsoft. Now, this hasn't been the case with DropBox who has had multiple blatant and unforgivable security issues. With the encryption, if the container changes, all child objects change because they inherit the changes from the container... so the upload is working as intended.
I signed up for this yesterday (thanks Zboy), but today they're offering 50 gigs. https://www.box.com/signup/o/dell_50gb_give_get
Interesting. I also use a TrueCrypt container in DropBox and it works like a charm. I wonder how Google Drive handles it.
