I noticed the Rockets seemed to have 3 guards on the floor quite a bit with Mobley basically playing sf I think, Francis playing the 2 guard and Norris at the point. The offense seemed to work pretty well. Just wanted some opinions on if you all see rudy using a lot of offenses with 3 guards this year. Do you think this was just a preseason thing or will Norris get quite a bit of time at the point this year with Francis playing the other guard position? Just wanted some opinions on how everyone likes having Francis, Morris, and Mobley on the court at the same time and if this will continue during the regular season.. thanx

I like the rotation. But I doubt that Rudy would have used it if Duncan and Robinson were in the game. Our guards were doing some foolish things taking it to the hole with such opposition in the paint.

I know it's not saying much but our guards killed the spurs second-string frontcourt by making passes to Cato inside for a dunk. I like Cato when he takes it up hard so nobody can block him. I think he had four dunks in last nights game.

In the future, I have no idea how we are going to contain Robinson and Duncan. We certainly cannot use Collier until he gets more experienced. Robinson was making Collier look really bad. But that's what you expect.

But back to your topic, I believe the three guard offense is very effective when the other teams front court isn't dominating. Mooch, Mobley, and Francis are some serious offensive power in crunchtime.

i think Rudy is going to go with whatever rotation is creating the most favorable mismatches. If that means three guards under 6-4, he's not afraid to do it. If it means Bull at the 4 and Mo Taylor at the 5 I think we'll see that too during the season. I wouldn't expext to see too many games where Mooch gets as many minutes as Francis like the Spurs game, but I think when the situation is right, Rudy will have them on the floor together.

rock.. i've been very impressed with mooch. he was a great pick up. he isn't a star or anything but his game is a lot better than drew or maloney's games were. he's already 27 though.. moving on up in age. I didn't realize until the other day that mobley is already 26.. moving up in age fast also. 26 isn't old but compared to the other 3rd year players who came out of school after a couple years it is.

The way those guys play off the dribble they will be lucky to play two more years without inducing early arthritis in their knees and ankles. Maybe we should trade some of our aging backcourt for draft picks.

I'm kidding, I know that you just thought that they were all 22. Basketball players seem to have their best years (when athleticism and experience balance out) after they turn 30. I would much rather watch guys at this stage of their career than college age (unless they are playing against college competition).

With age comes experience. 26 is young. The average age of our championship teams was probably in the low thirties (Charles Jones might have increased the overall average a bit). These guys are still building experience. If Houston can keep this young nucleus together for many years (when they have five years under their belt) and obtain a star center, we will see another decade of playoff contention.

I would much rather have Cat in the starting lineup that Walt. The team plays so much better with Francis,Anderson,Taylor,Cat in the game.

When we play the eastern teams you will see more Cat, Anderson, and Francis. The rotations in the East will be favorable for a smaller lineup. In the West, you can expect the classical rotation. Nothing new.
