Although I think Pau Gasol is underrated by many on this board, I am afraid the cost of him would be too high. Our best bet is on DMo, whose skillset completes Asik. Just have some patient and let our young guys develop.
Not that Jason Friedman speaks for Daryl Morey but it would appear they have moved on from Gasol. They want a young "star" to grow with this team. 32 years old and one year left at 19 million, not what they're looking for. With that said, I don't disagree with you and something I would consider(in the summer).
I don't doubt that, and I'm sure Morey is waiting out this Lakers situation to see if Dwight will become available. Pau Gasol would be a great player though, he's got a game that will age well just like Tim Duncan. He's a high BBIQ player, has a great mid-range jumper, is one of the best at passing from inside and from the high-post, and he's got a back-to-the basket post game and is 7'0 tall. If there was an opportunity to, I would prefer to acquire him and then after next season negotiate reasonable contract terms like a $48M 4 years contract with a team option on the 4th or a partial guarantee only. 33 year old healthy and motivated Gasol is better than any option on the free market.
I'm not against Gasol, I just think Milsap or Josh Smith fit better with the guys we already have. Do they make us contenders? No. But I think they would be a more likely piece of a championship team in houston than Gasol would be. But either way we are another player away from contention. And if Lin doesn't become that player, it may be awhile before we get him!
Too expensive, too old, does not deserve to wear a Rockets jersey, looks like a farm animal and there are better players for less money out there. Pass!
I really don't want to watch an unhappy Gasol pout and decline. I'd far rather watch TJ and Moti struggle and learn.
Gasol has knee problems so Mchale will need to develop a have court offense also you need consistent shooters in halfcourt , something rockets dont have. Him expiring will give us MAJOR cap though
