Warning: Do not read other posters' comment unless you give up since it usually contains the answer. Clutchcity.net posters are very smart.

We start with a very simple one to get those little gray cells working:

You just recently bought a new Mercedez Benz and you want to drive it to Compaq Center to show off your new car to your friends. Since the car is new and the traffic is heavy, you drive slowly from your home to Compaq Center at 20 miles/hour. On the way back from Compaq Center to your home, you drive at 30 miles/hour.

What is the average speed of your trip from your home to Compaq Center and back to your home?

Note: This has been answered by Major and codell

Recap: I attempt to post some pure logic riddles, those riddles with a real solution, no gimmicks, based on a fairly simple reasoning solution. Nothing too difficult, just a little thinking and reasoning, sometimes a simple math will do.

I'll post 3 logic riddles per day until I run out of riddles with the assumption that each riddle will get answered. If it's not answered yet, I will not post the next riddle.

    25 miles/hour. 30 miles/hour plus 20 miles/hour=50 mph divided by 2(the number of trips)= 25 mph

of course, you could be drunk on the way home, get lost and drive an additional 25 miles thus skewing the avg speed

or maybe that would just be me

I'll wait for some more answers.

You need to explain how you got the answer, rather than just answering.

Remember, no gimmicks in my question. I won't say something like the driver is drunk or anything else in that nature. ;)

I am thinking you need a time to determine this...
    d=rt;r1=20;r2=30;t1;t2
    thus d=((r1+r2)/2)*((t1+t2)/2) or d=25((t1+t2)/2)
    maybe maybe no

first leg of a two hour trip you drive 20 mph thus traversing 20 miles

the second leg of the trip you drive 30mph thus traversing 30 miles

all in all you drive 50 miles in 2 hours therefore the average speed driven is 25 mph

but in rereading the question, the average speed of the trip to the comaq center is 20 mph

the average speed of the return trip is 30 mph

My logic riddles always look easy, but it's never that easy. It's not too difficult either though.

    Hint:
    As Antimav mentioned, Speed=Distance/Time.

No. Assume the trip from your home to Compaq is a constant 20 miles/hour, and the trip back from Compaq to your home is a constant 30 miles/hour.

Let's say, for simplicity, the Compaq Center is 60 miles from your home. Takes you 3 hours to get there, 2 hours to get back. 120 miles in 5 hours, or 24mph on average.

Just thinking outside of the box here, but 1st average = 20 miles per hour and going home = 30 miles per hour

I knew it was less than 25mph, since you were traveling for more time at 20mph than you were at 30mph, so i just took the average of 20 and 25. Very poor mathematics, but in my defense I was engaged in watching a solid episode of "24" and not really trying.

Dammit I was watching "24"... that should have been my guess!
