It's perfectly okay to like a Coach but realize they're not a very good coach.

I like McHale as a person and respect him as a player.

His minutes, substitutions, and play sets leave a lot to be desired...

So lets say everbody here gets there wish and the coach gets fired whoever the next coach is dont they need time with the players and time to learn a whole new system that will take at least the 2nd half of the season by then probely they would be out of the 8th spot if it takes time for the players to learn ..

A former big trying to shape up an offense for guards and perimeter players, this doesn't look good from the beginning.

LOFs hate him because he puts lin on the bench when he's not doing good/ contributing well.

Everyone else doesn't like him because we've been losing.

I was defending McHale up to a week ago. I thought he had finally worked it out - why/how did the bottom fall out this team?

How about all the above AND he plays the $80M, 6 year contract future Star of the Team 41 minutes in freaking 20 point blow outs? All while simultaneously burning Parsons for 36 minutes per game and Lin for 34 minutes per game in a super heavy schedule month whether we're in a blow out game or not?

Then benches Toney Douglas who has been playing better than expected for a rookie straight out or Russia who has very little play time with the team?

And refuses to give Donates Montejunas and Terence Jones play team even when the starting and back up PF's are getting 3 rebounds in a game COMBINED and bricking shots for multiple games?

And we won't even get into the multiple games he benches Asik at the wrong times or doesn't put Smith in when it makes sense?

And yah, I disagree with his usage of Lin... however, that's only ONE of the laundry list of issues I have with McHale and his coaching team.

    It depends on the coach.

A VERY good coach would start with the existing play book and *selectively* use the parts of the playbook that are the most efficient, while discarding those parts of the playbook that are causing issues.

Then they would slowly introduce their own adjustments and sets over time to improve performance.

When Mike Woodson took over mid-season he went 18-6. He kept most of D'Antoni's plays, changed the emphasis of certain plays in practice, and changed how he handled the players and minutes.

You don't have to throw out the entire playbook, just use it more intelligently to be successful as a mid-season coach.

Na...we hate him when he benches Lin for the sake of benching...when he plays solid bench him...when he plays bad bench him...when other players play bad bench him.

Well usually after a coach is fired, there's a slight boost in effort and teams generally go on a win streak of 4-5 games. So there's that.

But also, it's not as if a new coach is going to step in and institute a whole new system. Rather, he would just tinker with what's already known to the players and clear up the rotation and substitution patterns. That alone should get a few more wins imo.

Isn't Finch the offensive coordinator though? Maybe it is he this offense is based on?

When you enforce a half-cooked system to the players and you have a losing streak, you don't know it's the fault of the system or some players. The coaches are completely lost now.

Let's look at Lin, Asik, and Parsons. Three starters who were supposed to contribute a lot this season. What have they done? All of these players have been benched for extended periods this season.

Of course McFail will try to say he is trying to toughen them up or teach them the "real" way to play Ball. But halfway through the season what do we have to show for it? All three of these players have regressed and McFail is looking more and more like an old fogey who can't adapt to the times.

More and more it is apparent McFail is just trying to save his job and will play whoever meets those needs. So his plan apparently is to ride Harden to a .500 record and cling to his job for another year. Only even here he is failing. Playing Harden for so many minutes will only shorten his career and make him more ineffective later in the season. Also the primitive offense McFail is running is forcing Harden into bad habits and turning him away from the efficient player he has always been. McFaiil's lack of understanding of basic offensive concepts means that Harden has to scrap and fight for every point instead of what he was early i n the season. A guy who could score 30 without breaking a sweat.
