if the coaching staff don't have confidence in Jeremy and thinnk TD and PB is better than just trade Jeremy.
here is the article (http://www.latimes.com/sports/laker...blasts-dwight-howard-20130123,0,3739880.story) on how jvg blasted dh. it's same idea we can apply to lin. lin doesn't want to use his best weapon to help team to win. instead, he wants to be the best traditional pg. period, he is not good at it. i don't know it is his own idea or other ppl's idea. dump and stupid.
Jason's article quoted a lot of what Lin said in his interview today. http://www.nba.com/rockets/video/jeremy-lin-01232013 At 2:14, Jason asked Lin a very good question. He was almost telling Lin what he needs to do: mainly to get his own shots first so that Lin could get going. A lot of shrewd fans on the site already pointed that before. Lin is such a rhythm player (frustrating, yes. but it is what it is) that he SHOULD just have the ball in his hands and not care too much about himself ball-hogging for a few mins at the beginning of the each game and just score a few points by doing his ISOs (dribble shooting, using some screens to make some mid-range jumpers) to get himself in the rhythm and gain the confidence. Once he gets going, he then can concentrate more on facilitating. That way it would also benefit the whole team a lot more because the team would get the most out of Lin. The Mavs games was a perfect example: in the 4th quarter when we were down big, for a few consecutive possessions, Lin didn't even pass he simply did his ISOs and score a bunch in just a few mins, saving that game to an almost win. Sometimes the bystanders knows better what Lin needs to do than himself. Lin’s being overly-unselfish will eventually lead to his own demise if he doesn't change his mental approach of his game (It seems he still doesn't get it from his answering to Jason’s question). He hasn't realized that being a pure facilitator is a luxury that only the establish players like Nash can enjoy. Nash doesn't try to score that much and people don’t care he scores or not because they know he can if he wants. Lin hasn't earned that status of just being a facilitator not a scorer. If he doesn't score first and he can’t get into the rhythm, he would get benched before he even gets the chance to do his ‘preferred’ facilitating. Lin is silly to still think that he is most needed to be a pure facilitator. Without Harden on this team, yes. But Harden is here and he is one of the best facilitators (plus there is Parsons and Delfino who are also able to do some facilitating) This team doesn't even need that much play-making from Lin anymore. The team needs an aggressive Lin to be a scorer, especially needs him to knock down some open 3s. If Lin doesn't wake up from his 'facilitating first' mentality, he will gradually lose his starting job. The patience is wearing thin with each of his passive no- score game.
I think it's his coaches that is the problem. Instead of letting him control the flow of the offense, they make him pass it to Harden after he brings the ball up and make him camp in the corner 3.
harden needs the ball early in the clock to do what he does the best...and if it's a lie then why are beverley and TD doing the same thing?
Why does Douglas often have more fga than Lin? Even last game Beverly had more and both with a lot less minutes played.
well we know instinctively what he is like. the problem is, his scoring instincts are at times contradicting what he believes to be his primary role. but then again, he's only been playing this role since November so i'd be inclined to give him and the coaches more time to figure it out.
What about the Knicks game and the 3-4 games after that? Did McHale suddenly changed Lin? Excuses, excuses, excuses. Lin has the ball in his hands the most after Harden. He has plenty of opportunities.
beverley and lin played the same minutes and bev was actually in the game while harden was on the bench? and he only had 1 FGA more than lin
In fairness to the coaches, I think they did try to utilize Lin's strength. For one thing, their running and gunning system utilizes Lin's speed and quick decision-making very well. The up-tempo play actually has always been one of Lin's specialties if you watched his college and high school games. Some people complained about the lack of pick&roll plays set for Lin, and I do share the same concern. But implementing such plays, especially for such a young team, requires a lot of practices. The current system premises on solid defense, getting stops and rebounds so as to get their up-tempo offense going. If Rockets could forget about the ups and downs on their offense and always focus on their defense, they should be just fine. But, one problem for young players is that they tend to lose focus defensively once their offense does not go well. And I think the coaches are doing a good job reminding the players where the real problem lies. As to Lin's offensive performance, I, like many others, would love to see that Linsanity-type of offensive play. But any team has its own system, and players need to respect that. And I believe, given time and more practice, they will improve on the half-court offense as well. If Lin could significantly improve his defensive skills this season, it would also be invaluable in the long run. I guess, in a word, patience is what's needed.
could it be the coaches idea? maybe this is their way of playing harden and lin together. harden is the designated scorer, and lin is the designated facilitator. after all, this IS the pattern that we saw after the first two un-coached game where lin and harden basically freelanced. i can tell you, though, that if lin takes 15-20 shots per game, there will be less shots for others, and less involvement in the offense from others. ideally, in this offense, you have james getting 25/5 on 15-20 shots, and lin getting 12/10 with 10-13 shots. that tells me that other players are involved as well and hopefully scoring in double digits.
Agreed, Lin isn't built as a pure facilitating PG. He's a score first PG, a good one when he acts like it. I feel like he's been trying to be something he's not this season. Score first and let that open the game up for easy passes, a la Linsanity Lin. He's getting opportunities. I don't know what game you guys are watching. Lin is 5th in total TOs for all point guards. How the hell would he manage that if he's just camping in the corner all game. He's sharing the responsibility of being a playmaker with Harden but he's been getting a fair amount of opportunities.
