Agreed. If he leaves the Lakers the only teams that he would realistically sign on to are the Rockets and and Mavericks. With every loss that piles onto the Lakers things will only get worst. Two separate reporters have commented on being in the locker room after the Bulls game and seeing Dwight approach teammates with the post-game stat sheet (supposedly Metta and Earl Clark) and thumbing at the fact that he only had 5 shots. Rumour from Kevin Ding (Lakers reporter) that Dwight has been commenting on Kobe's shooting stats recently which has made teammates uncomfortable. When asked about whether Dwight had enough touches, instead of being completely PC Kobe mentioned that he was out of rhythm at times because he was searching for Dwight instead of his own shot. Dwight wants to play inside-out and D'Antoni wants the ball in Nash's hands and to run his Suns offense. He's been pretty hardball about it as well. And Gasol has already checked out, he wants to move.
D'Antoni is signed to a $12M 4-year contract and Steve Nash is there for 3 years $28M. By the end of the season I think Dwight will be sick of both of them, but they're not exactly expendable. Lakers are concerned about their spending, they're over the tax by almost $30M this season and the repeater tax comes into effect next season. They are still paying Brown's contract, I doubt they fire D'Antoni for a third coach, and if they did it the situation would turn toxic anyway. Kobe is there next season on a $30M salary, so the Lakers can only secure veteran minimum contracts if Dwight signs on and they will almost certainly lose Gasol as well. Two ball-dominant guards in a system that runs plays through Nash. Kobe and Nash are two extremely popular figures that would be hard to bend to his will. They would both combine for one of the worst defensive back-courts which would frustrate the hell out of Dwight. The LA media is starting to crucify him and the situation is getting more toxic. I'm not sure Dwight would re-sign in LA, tbh, I doubt he'd be willing to go through another season of this only to have a bare roster outside of Nash and D'Antoni in 2014.
Would the Mavs make a run at Howard? Cuban has said he's willing to take on salary, they could save the Lakers $5m in salary and $5m in taxes. With Kaman as the centerpiece of the trade for salary purposes, the Mavs have enough 'interesting' pieces on short term deals to make it wortwhile for the Lakers.
