how has Billy Nungesser been doing in this time period? he kind of became a CNN personality at one point, just by being interviewed all the time. Republican, seemed like a good guy, possible challenger for Christie at the GOP buffet

Gotta disagree. Some are, some aren't, and some think about it, but exercise self-control.

That's just a reflexive disdain for authority and institutions. An independent judiciary, robust legal and journalistic communities, and an engaged, organized citizen can expose and extinguish corruption enough to allow for a functioning government.

Even more to the point, many have bigger priorities and goals than personal enrichment.

New Orleans is notorious for corruption, which partially explains the schism of class that has been there long before Katrina. This is hardy a surprise if true.

Limbaugh has had some good years, but his cardiologist is telling him to slow down and chew.

    DAMN, you're dense.

It's not posting the story that makes texxx a troll, it's the less-than-subtle dig at race. Not to mention the blind eye turned toward George Bush and his administration, who turned their own blind eye to the Gulf Coast devastation (although I'm sure Haley Barbour was on speed dial all that time).

The fact you and basso have such a tin ear for this stuff is flabbergasting, but explains all upteen thousand of your posts in this forum.

    But let me add:

From what I read and what I saw in Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke (Fell?)", Nagin was just awful. In his interview, speaking of Katrina, looking back, Nagin said, "Man, this (Katrina) is gonna be the end of my business career, my political career." He mentions business career first. That was Nagin. He was so scared of business ramifications of the storm that he waited til the absolute end to call evacuation.

Sorry, but Katrina was as much a reckoning upon centuries of corrupt and inefficient Southern populist politics and city planning as it was on the then incumbent federal administration's narrow, favoristic and reactive leadership style. Texxx posted an objectively written article from a reliable news source about a federal indictment on corruption charges. You cannot rationally conflate or inculpate Bush's response to Katrina with these activities in any way, you just can't. There are clean, competent, brilliant, black liberal politicians everywhere; don't waste your time defending jackasses like Nagin.

I don't believe anyone here is defending Nagin, in fact, it looks like people are criticizing him. Some are saying they aren't surprised because politics, especially in LA, has a long history of corruption. Again, not defending it, just reporting it.

What is being discussed is the OP's reasons behind reporting *this* case of political corruption. I don't really care one way or another, since the OP has long ago become a caricature, reflective of what has become of conservatives and many within the GOP.

It's a legitimate thread topic. Nagin is well known, as is New Orleans. Regardless of texxx's past behavior (which is another story), I don't have a problem with this.

Please, bigtexxx's history makes it quite suspect and I didn't even include his performance in the Trayvon Martin thread. Also, the fact that he didn't use the picture in the story and took a picture from 2009 to add to this story just underscores his trolling. And Nagin is a dirt bag, there's no need to make it racial but that's what bigtexxx does. He makes it racial and then feigns disgust when someone points it out. It's a joke.

He's a bigot and he's not allowed to openly express his views. The country that he knew is no longer here. No wonder he's so cranky.

Ah, the "but I have a black friend" card. Nice thread, doesn't excuse your blatant history. How does it feel to be part of a dying breed, you never told me...

I'm very aware of texxx's history, but in this case, the Nagin story isn't controversial in that sense, in my opinion. What really bothered me when I first heard of this (Nagin being charged) is that it reinforces the stereotype of the corrupt Southern politician, heck, the corrupt American politican. Those who are bigoted will be busy nodding their heads saying, "I told you so. They're all alike, from top to bottom." Those others who see all politicians as corrupt, regardless of color, will be doing much the same thing. Nagin's notoriety just makes it that much worse. While Louisiana has a long history of corrupt politicians, both White and Black, as I said earlier, the idea that politicians "are all alike" when these kinds of things occur, or thought more pervasively, but with less publicity, that they are all in the pocket of lobbyists and those that pay them, that simply isn't true. And everytime a Nagin pops up, it damages the public perception of the honesty of their government, regardless of the level, regardless of the region of this country. And that hurts everyone.
