    Thanks for answering.

To address your first post in the thread:

Yes, right-wing extremists are a problem in certain countries/areas. I think that both right-wing extremists and Islamist extremists are a problem. I consider both these groups huge idiots and would prefer to never run into any of them.

But I think that those Nazi assholes have less in common, ideologically, with the average person in their country than Islamist assholes (like the ones in the news report I posted) have with conservative Muslims.

Let me try to explain what I mean:

The whole right-wing fascist ideology is based on the idea of a superiority of one's race/nationality over others, and extreme xenophobia. Fortunately, nowadays, more than 90 % of people in Western countries do not believe in crap like that anymore (I understand that in some patches of Russia or Eastern Europe, sadly, the percentage might be lower).

On the other hand, what these Islamist idiots in the report are trying to force on non-Muslims is actually something they jointly believe with "regular" Muslims, at least with conservative ones:

    - no alcohol
    - "modest clothing" not optional, but mandatory
    - no gambling
    - no drugs
    - no p*rn or prostitution or whatever they consider that to be (like ads with underwear models)

    Etc.

The only big difference between the Islamists and conservative Muslims is that these extremist guys are trying to force it upon non-Muslims, whereas the conservative Muslims - who believe the same thing - do not try to force it upon others as long as they are not in the majority.

I can understand that some people have the fear that as soon as Muslims are in the majority somewhere, even non-extremists will basically force their rules upon non-Muslims as well.

That's why I think that these Islamist guys are a bigger problem - because they have more ideological backing by a larger, and growing, segment of the population.

I find Nazi fascists MORE disgusting than these guys, but I just don't see them - again, sadly, except in some patches in Eastern Europe - having any chance to grow and gain more influence.

That's why I don't really post about them. I think they are more isolated and therefore a smaller problem. I travel extensively and have never run into any Nazis (fortunately), but if you spend time in certain parts of inner cities, be it East London, the banlieues of Paris, Malmö, Copenhagen, Frankfurt train station area, Munich train station area, Berlin-Kreuzberg/Neukölln, etc. etc., you WILL run into people like this Jamaal Uddin idiot from the article above.

I hope that helps to see where I am coming from.

    ------------

The other thing is, yes, right-wing extremists are a problem (although you will surely confirm that you did not run into ANY in the cities you have been to in Europe), but this thread is not about them. You bringing them up here is like coming into a thread about the Sandy Hook shooting and starting to talk about casualties of medical malpractice. What's the point, other than trying to divert from the actual thread topic and problem raised in the thread, for ideological reasons?

These thugs are in the wrong. I believe what they are trying to enforce is wrong, and using any type of thug tactics to enforce it is wrong.

The thing is except for the few bullies out there doing this, they don't have any real power, nor do they really have an opportunity to get any real power.

See ATW's points above. The scariest extremists are those that have a large following. Because you have proven yourself time and time again to have below-average reasoning skills, I'll leave it at that.

I've been posting in the D&D for roughly three years. I've disagreed with you, I've had you on off my ignore list. But, for the first time, I can say that I understand your point of view and say that it is based on sound reasoning. While I don't agree with everything you say, you are certainly not irrational or bigoted, and I apologize for calling you so in the past.

I didn't have the misfortune to meet any right wing extremists in Europe.

But the reason why I brought it up is because the fear that people usually evoke about these incidents is often exploited by the right wingers. Extremism feeds more extremism, which feeds more extremism. you can see it in some of the thread replies here---"They're aggressive while the masses are passive, it's just a matter of time.". These are very common themes exploited by the far right to advance their cause. Fear begets more fear.

I differ on your view of how much power extremist Islamic practitioners could ever wield in Europe. To me, they're just another set of idiots. I prefer to laugh at them, maybe even with them if they suddenly realize how ridiculous some of their positions are, instead of creating waves of fear around them. Until they start infiltrating judicial and legislative processes on a large-enough scale, I will continue laughing.

My two cents. Don't fight fire with fire, fight it with water.

I edited it out because it was an incomplete thought.

But in the interests of full disclosure, the thought went something like this

---But yes ATW, I can agree with you that Islamic extremists are by and large terrible people, we just differ dramatically on how to respond to that.

    that's it that's all.

The bolded part of the quote reveals a very weak, unrealistic, leftist-academic, wishful view of the world. If there is one defining characteristic of these people, it is that they are completely devoid of any sense of humor. They have none, whatsoever. In fact, I find your naive statement insulting to victims of their intolerance.

I certainly would not go and say "hey, I would laugh with Nazis if they suddenly realize how ridiculous some of their positions are".

It's a naive and very telling statement.

Alright, I will go ahead with Godwin's law:

That's what people thought before Hitler came to power.

Ignorance and appeasement did not work.

And trying to "laugh with them" certainly did not work.

Remind me when the Islamists seize power, and start suspending democracy in Western Europe, if you want to pull Nazi comparisons.

A good example of this is the fall of the KKK---I suggest you look up Stetson Kennedy to see how ridicule can be a powerful tool to lock organizations down. Your brand of fear vs fear simply does not work---because how can you fight fear with fear?

You break the cycle. Enforce the laws. Ensure the integrity of the republican system. Defend above all else the right of these extremists to be heard---for nothing will make them more alienating than the light. Nothing is stronger than a healthy and sustainable republic that enforces its' own laws with integrity and purpose.

Then you laugh; because you have done your work defending the institution of the land such that these groups are powerless. Impotent. They can do no more than lash out in violence.

Increasingly isolated, these groups will fall on themselves. While the effects might be unpleasant, they will be contained within the prisms of a healthy, liberal democracy that repudiates all they stand for.

It's not about their sense of humor, it's about mine.

And my laughter is contagious. (but so is all laughter I suppose).

Checking in just for you. Lol..what would you have me do?

Seems like a stupid gang and the British authorities should deal with them like they do all gangs. I would take it a step further and just deport them to wherever they hell they are from and that way they can live with other idiots.

And fyi...the Muslims don't have one leader like the Catholics do with the Pope. Maybe Mohammed should come back to condemn this to make you happy?

    Iran
    Afghanistan
    Saudi Arabia
    Mali

Really also to some extent places like Pakistan, with its "blasphemy laws".

If you cannot see or understand that the people who do this "Muslim Patrol" kind of stuff are of the same mindset as the Islamists in the above countries and that we have to be very watchful of what these people do in our countries, then you really are naive.

All that blabla about fear vs. fear is just pretty naive talk by someone who hasn't seen much in life.

This. Mob mentality. Gang tactics. If you're not with us, you're against us.

The entire time I was watching this idiot spew his garbage after spray painting the H&M advertisement, the only thought going through my head was "who the ***** are you to even think you get to decide what everyone else in the world should/should not see/do/etc" The whole point is that the religion asks you to do X, Y, Z...personal responsibility on YOU...not force others to change their way of life. Offer them understanding if they seek it, but to them theirs, to you yours.

Unbelievable. ***** these twisted nutjobs. That's coming from someone who's a Muslim, loves his religion, doesn't shove it done peoples throats and answers those who have questions about it without forcing them to change their views if they don't agree.

But keep in mind these people would probably murder me too. That's the thing most mainstream media and western society fails to recognize. Extremist muslims aren't just extreme against non-muslims, they're also extreme against muslims that don't agree with them.

    Good point.

As long as moderate Muslims like you and non-Muslims like me stand united against these extremists, things will be fine.

Don't let them drag you into an "us vs. them" like non-fascist Germans were dragged into a war by fascist Germans.

What is the point of fearing a small extremist minority, if you dedicate yourself to ensuring they can never do any real damage anyways by ensuring democracies follow the rule of law?

If you want to argue with me that the judicial and legislative systems of Europe and America are similar to those of Pakistan, than by all means continue your thread of thought. Until then, your Nazi comparisons will be as off-base as your "Pakistan in American" comparisons.

The ironic thing is this whole War on Terror and the fear it has engendered has actually done so much more damage to Western liberal democratic values than the original attacks themselves. We have seen America descend to torture, attempt to suspend habeas corpus, flagrantly violate the 4th, 5th, and 8th Amendments in the face of perceived threats, and engage in multiple catastrophic wars. Should there have been a response? Sure. Should it have been infused with so much fear? No.

A strong and integrity-filled republic that follows and interprets its' own laws properly is the best defense against those seeking to force another set of laws entirely.

The Nazis slowly gained power in Germany by way of election. They seized power in Poland....

I am amused by the intern's grandiose announcements taken from school textbooks and leftist magazines.

I feel a bit sorry because he is trying to sound like a forefather of a constitution or something.

Do you practice your little speeches while washing dishes?
