No. I watched him closely for 5-6 seasons on the Blazers and he was extremely overrated by commentators and people who didn't watch Portland on a regular basis. He doesn't coach defense as well as advertised. Blazers ranked high because they played at a boring pace that was slow as molasses. He has serious problems getting along with players. This is too long to explain at length, but Brandon Roy saved his bacon for several years. Roy was the one player "Sarge" got along with and trusted and was the enforcer on the team that made everyone do what McMillan said without dissent. When Roy left the team last year, there was an insurrection by two or more players (Felton and Crawford) that led to everyone quitting and McMillan being fired. This year on different teams, Felton and Crawford have bounced back to form. Darius Miles and Z-Bo both had multiple lockerroom eruptions directed at "Sarge". I'm wondering if the league has figured things out and that explains why he hasn't been on anyone's shortlist so far.
JVG god I love that man! I have a smile on my face reminiscing about how he was dangling on Patric Ewing's leg during the brawl between knicks and heat. lol We need him here ASAP!
