David Alridge reported tonight that Nick said if he was the Mavericks owner that he would trade himself. He wants more playing time. What would stop a trade between Mobley and Nick? Hes a true 1 and Steve could become the 2.Is there any cap problems here? or any reasons why we wouldn't want him?

Hey James you don't think Nick could run our offense and get us some open shots? I've never liked him but he has a good ass/turn ratio and he's averaging 12.6 pts, and hes not a starter. Also hes cheap. Would you rather have Cat over Nick? Like I said I don't like him but he is a good player and can create, I think he would come to houston because he would start.Steve and Nick as the 1@2, that wouldn't be too bad...Just a thought;)

Ming, he may be cheap, but not on the salary he picks...he is probably the highest paid PG right now behind Damon.

even though i dislike mobley, i choose him over van exel. van exel is just too erratic; he can shoot you in a game or out of a game. with his wild and unpredictable game, a good team can use him as bench player who comes in and score points and can bench when he's not playing well. if he's on a bad team, he can start and bring some excitement for the fans. he's like a better white chocolate.

Top 5 Highest Paid PG for this year only....

    1)Stoudemire 13.5 mil
    2)Payton 13.1 mil
    3)Marbury 12.2 mil
    4)Brandon 10.2 mil
    5)Van Exel 10 mil

Of course, in the coming years, Francis, B. Davis, A. Miller, Kidd's renewed contract, and Bibby will change up the order a bit.

By the way, Cassell's contract is a freakin bargain. This year, he is getting paid 4.5 mil. The 3 years after that, he will be getting, on average, 5.5 mil per year.

No, created headaches for the coaches and management while he was out here in LA. Too high maintenance...

This board is starting to lose relevence if people would prefer a Francis/Van Exel duo over Francis/Mobley. If you guys can't stand Mobley, damn, I already see a mob being formed here and actually going to Nick's house with torches and pitchforks ready.

Van exel is a ball hog, he shoots alot. I like mobley better, and nick always has a bad shot selection. he can't guard, yeah great player for the rockets. come on people lets get serieus

Who do we give the Mavericks? I really don't want to help them get closer to a title for someone who'd be of marginal help, at best.

Plus, he doesn't want out of Dallas, he was just being honest. I found that very refreshing.

Are you guys nuts? Here are Van Exel's current and next three seasons salaries:

    $10,003,125 / $10,912,500 / $11,821,750 / $12,731,125

Now that is a rich man! How the hell does Cuban break even while paying for these chumps? He's got $49 million going to Bradley, $22 million going to Eschmeyer, and not to mention max deals for Finley and Nowitski. I actually think that Nash's contract is somewhat reasonable.

Rocketman95 - In that case, it would be a pleasure to change the sig... :)

I have two additional thoughts about NVE beyond salary.

    1) What type of defense do we expect from a guard tandem of NVE and Francis?

    2) Aquiring NVE presents a problem with Cuttino. If he's part of the trade, he'll help the Mavs alot if he will come of their bench. If he's not part of the trade, I have some serious reservations about "small ball" consisting of NVE, SF and Cat all on the court at the same time.

That said, am I alone in believing that a deal involving Rice's short-term contract and/or Cuttino could net better than Nick the Quick? Somebody in the EC has to be drooling over Rice's $9m+ contract expiring in the summer of 2004.

If it were my decision, I'd take Eddie Jones over NVE. But either contract is excessive.

NVE is a cancer. He's been a problem everywhere he's played. Eddie Jones is another example of a guy taking advantage of a weak FA market and cashing in big time. I'd rather have Cuttino than either of these overpaid guys.

Cuttino over Eddie Jones? Granted Eddie Jones is overpaid, but the guy is bigger than Mobley, plays D much better than Mobley, shoots better than Mobley, and can hit the 3 much more consistently than Mobley.

He hasn't been a cancer in Dallas. You also can't blame him for wanting out of Denver. Everyone except Raef wanted out of Denver, just ask Posey.

Also he didn't say he wanted out of Dallas and he definately has not said that he's unhappy about his playing time. He just said that he would understand if Dallas traded him for a big man because that's what Dallas needs. He said that if a big man were available to the Mavs he would trade himself in a heartbeat if he were Nellie/Cuban. He's just being honest, and understanding the business aspect of the game.

As for this trade ... Nick doesn't fit what the Rockets need. If Nick started for the Rockets (which he would if traded for Cat) he would command just as many shots as Mobley. He's a MUCH better passer than Cat however he's just as erractic as Cat. Also I don't see any way the Mavs would do this trade to begin with. The last thing the Mavs need is another SG. Especially one that doesn't pass the ball. Beside why would two teams within the same division want to help each other out. Especially when both teams could be meeting in the 1st round of the playoffs this year?

I don't think Nick wants out of Dallas. He was asked about his worth there and he replied quite honestly that Dallas really doesn't need him and because of his salary, if he was the owner, he would probably trade himself. Quite a mature attitude if you ask me.

what's the point of trading mobes for him? We already have a point guard who demands the ball a majority of the time. Van Exel and Mobley are the same...they both jack up shots and neither helps his team very much.
