I first saw Matt Hoffman at Bowling Bicycles in Pasadena in 1987 and I couldn't believe what this 14yr old kid was doing. Little did I know that he would completely change the future of Ramp riding - but wow what A price he's paid. He's a tough guy - He actually carries a suture kit with him in case he needs to give himself stitches (without anesthesia). Has anyone else seen the documentary ESPN films did on him? check out the part about his injuries starting at the 5:02 mark. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9vHwjGdD54Y?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Got all 30 for 30 for like 30-40 bucks when Groupon had that deal. This was a pretty good doc, not my favorite, but it's cool to see that Matt just wanted to go big and was so far ahead of anyone in his generation, like Tony Hawk.
its crazy because he's still pretty together. Whereas Ron Wilkerson had one really bad one and he's never been quite the same mentally..pretty much been a space cadet after he recovered.
And so many of them were so violent -- falling 25 feet and just smashing his head into those wood or metal ramps with old school tech helmets. He's definitely not all there, but really it's amazing he's still alive.
I watched it on netficks, as a kid growing up in the 90's and watching XGames every summer, I enjoyed this one.
