Do I need to call the waaaaambulance on you again? They're getting really tired of having to come out to treat you after a single sentence post of mine with not a shred of assholness results in another whiny tirade by Clutchfans' resident drama queen. If you don't want a discussion on who is at fault here (you know, the reason this thread exists as evidenced by Clutch's poll question) and you just want to have free reign to whine about anyone and everyone who can see the games while you can't, then that is your problem, not anyone else's. Can someone who's not a whiny baby like Batman please point out one of my posts since I initially apologized which indicated I don't think people should be upset about not having the channel? My only contention is that it's not all on one side and that no one here is at the negotiating table (and neither is David Barron), so no one can say for a fact who is at fault for this issue not being resolved. But whine whine whine away about mean ole me and bobrek. That will certainly help in you getting to watch this ridiculously fun team. P.S. We were friends on Facebook? LOL. Rep I just gave (and signed, unlike the p*****s who don the same to me) Batman before he can post it here. What a baby.
Grantland had a good article about this issue last week, titled "Why the Local TV Bubble Is About to Burst". Here's the most relevant part: In other words, there might come a point in time at which cable companies simply run out of good will with their subscribers, and won't be able to keep hiking rates. Maybe it's the 17th sports network charging two or three bucks for rights, maybe it's the 117th. Maybe it's customers who revolt; maybe it's the government. But when that happens, the teams that still haven't renegotiated their TV rights fees might find something less than a pot of gold waiting for them. That's doubly true for teams playing in small-to-medium-sized markets. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-t...v-bubble-is-about-to-burst-and-other-mlb-news The reason I'm not fully sympathetic to the providers is that they're trying to put toothpaste back in the tube. It's akin to the Chronicle trying to build a paywall site after years of offering it for free. The Rockets/Astros/CSN have precedents with plenty of other regional sports networks (including CSNs) with new deals that aren't merely on the "exclusive", add-on tier. If the providers wanted a hard-line stance, they should've drawn that line a long time ago. Also, why is it just an issue with regional sports networks? Why not try and gradually shift toward an "a-la-carte" model across the board? The answer is that the providers know that most folks would order significantly fewer channels than they have now (of the 75 channels I have on my plan, I rarely, if ever, watch at least 60 of them), and thus their margins would go down. The Dish CEO's "give consumers the choice!" plea rings hollow when they're not making that fight elsewhere. I'd totally be on the providers' side on pushing CSNs to a "sports tier" as long as they'd do the same thing for a number of other channels that I'm currently paying for but not watching. Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath.
Why are you telling ima_drummer2k that he's a complete idiot for not liking the fact that he cannot watch the games? You are such a dick. #i'mbatman
Random Outburst from a Uverse Customer - I'm SICK and TIRED of watching Rockets games online and I live 5 mins from Toyota Center! CSN Houston, I HATE YOU!! Thanks for letting me express myself
I finally called AT&T and threatened to cancel. I have been a customer for at least 5 years (Uverse, internet, home and cell phone). They gave me: - Free HD for a year ($10 a month savings). - U300 (with the Sports Package) and 12.0 internet (Uverse max?) for $106 a month, for the next 12 months. I was paying $142 a month but my internet was 6.0. - Free HBO/Cinemax for 3 months. - $100 credit on my next bill. I probably should have tried to get the HBO for 6 months but I just took what they offered.
I don't know. I don't work for the cable companies. Why don't you call them and find out? So now you're for ala carte? Which is it because previously you've said it's a good thing for teams being able to get more revenues and you ragged on people for that. If CSN were ala carte the revenue the Rockets would receive would be a fraction of what they got. So which it? Make up your mind. You act like a immature teenage kid and chastize people for not being adults? That's rich.
I knows it s not gonna happen... but say in a few years, shoudnt i jsut be able to pay a flat $100 a year and watch games online dirrectly though the rockets/rockets.com??? I would gladly do this
You may be able to, but no way it will be that cheap. It'll probably be cheap to get the Oxygen network though...
Take it for what it's worth. I talked to a direct tv supervisor today and she seemed to be pretty honest with me and said she did not think they would get it this season but by next they would. She said Comcast is asking a very high price; this is one that actually works in Houston. I know we have all been lied to constantly but this seemed like a fairly honest answer.
I could see this argument a lot more clearly if it were not for the undisputed allegation that CSN is seeking a much higher rate than 99% of the RSNs out there. I suggest that this would never have been an issue at the normal RSN rate.
I'm just trying to understand his comment and how Dish's pricing works. I took it to mean you could add individual stations which I haven't heard has been put into practice by any major provider. Listen, I'm going to continue to discuss this in the manner I have since my original and sincere apology to Batman, which has not been antagonistic in any way, other than in response to people taking my questions and opinions, and calling me an ******* or a dick because I have them. I am of the opinion that blame can be shared by all parties and if you can't handle reading them while continuing to respond to me in this manner, let me just say one last "**** you" and get it out of the way. Now let the adults talk please.
Just a reminder: you're talking about one unconfirmed, undocumented and anonymously-fed number reported by ONE person, who has a CLEAR motivation to be lied to. I'd be a little skeptical of taking that as gospel.
Point taken, but when ALL the major carriers are saying it - and not just one holdout - I'm a little more inclined to believe it's true. I mean, these providers are competitors, remember? If the price CSN is asking was reasonable, don't you think one of the major carriers would strike a deal just to get a leg up on it's competitors? Then immediately start running ads saying "you can't watch your Rockets on Uverse or Direct TV.....BUT YOU CAN ON DISH!"
The Astros own a majority of the channel. You won't see much change until their season is approaching and their games are in limbo.
