Flying Saucer is really only bar I ever venture into when its not baseball season.

By far the best bar in Houston if you like a variety of beer not just miller lite etc..

Whenever we head down for a game, we hit up Franks afterward. Wish there was more to do around the area but it's pretty sparse.

Basically a whole bunch of Bar/Restaurant folks got together and made a bar. The staff is paid like any other staff and the bar ran like any other bar. Anytime you buy a drink you place a token in a bin for the charity of your choice. When the month is up the charity that has the most tokens gets all of the profit for that month once all the bills clear. Basically nobody is making a dime on the bar but charity. Very cool idea.

By the way anyone that says don't go downtown because it is "Dead, Dangerous, Not the place". I say you are all wrong. Some good eateries all music and a majority of all sports in Houston. Your just showing your closed mindedness.

Awesome idea. Not exactly the same, but similar in spirit to Major's coffee shop in Austin - Dominican Joe's.

Head to Washington or the Upper Kirby area.

If I go to a game I'll go to the flying saucer before, or that Mexican restaurant in the Houston pavilion for a few drinks. After a game I usually go to midtown. If I stay downtown I'll go to Pete's.

Speaking of Pre-game at the Pavillions, I love going to McCormick & Schmick's for happy hour food. Then I hit up Reserve 101 for a couple of $1.50 PBR tall boys.

Of all the places mentioned... the best one to actually drink in... is... Hearsay. Am I missing something?

THIS. Forgot about that gem. Great atmosphere for different occasions/crowds; I feel like I can take a date, the guys, work friends, or all 3, SCHWING!

    The pretzels are inmymouthrightnowittastessogood.

Club SOME, nice! I've heard lots of good things about that place. I learned everything about the underground culture and music at Hyperia. Those were the days until it got shut down. Since 2003, Houston has had a tough time finding a true identity in this music scene, but i'm happy to say that now, there is a lot of great music.

There are a lot of afterhours parties popping up every where in houston now, but they mostly cater to the douchey crowds and you'll hear the exact same music that you'd hear in other douchey places. I feel that there are only two places that really bring the real afterhours feel in Houston, and that would be Rich's and Jet Lounge. Both are pretty low key, and not crazy packed. The music is great though and i'm confident to say that its the best stuff you will hear anywhere. Especially, when we bring world class talent and party late... those are the best nights.

Me too, we've walked pass that place plenty of times, if I'd known I would have stopped in. Checking it out next time I'm in Houston.

Hyperia. Haha yeah I went there too. The door guy was the same as club some. Wonder what bridge he lives under. Lots of flameouts and characters.

Will have to come check out your place.

Riches is pretty funny with some funny characters there too. That place has been going for a long time. I heard it was a little bit rough these days but would be nice trip to see that too. I think riches is one of the few true 'clubs' in houston in the sense of layout, big, lots of rooms, inside outside area. I always liked the atmosphere of the place and glad to hear that it is still going.

One of my friends that still parties was saying there is a place called 5th amendment that goes until 4. I am out of the loop so not sure.

It's a shame that downtown sucks again. There was a period there 1999-2000ish where downtown was the deal. This was after everyone left richmond strip.

It was the hub, living room (formerly power tools), toc bar, 511,jones bar, spy (which had 10 different names) and some names that I can't think of right now.

Red door and escobar seem to start the 'midtown' (old schoolers from houston wondering wtf is 'midtown'..thats like saying 'upper kirby' plz) after the superbowl downtown lost its mojo.

FWIW if someone asks I will tell them to try jet lounge.
