Well relative rookies in that its their second or third years. Brandon Harris Brooks Carmichael this is only Kareems 3rd year he should also be better next year hopefully
I think she means rookie in terms of how many years they've been running our system. And yeah, blitzing Brady is not a good idea. He LOVES using your blitzes against you, and hitting Welker or Woodhead on those little underneath routes in the soft spot. If we can sit back in coverage, take away the underneath routes, make him hold onto the ball waiting for the deeper routes to get open, and get pressure with our typical 4 or 5 man pass rush, I think we'll have a shot at keeping them under 30. At that point, it'll be up to the offense to put up 3 TDs and 3 FGs.
We're really expanding the definition of rookie right now. Makes me wonder how broad the meaning of "young guy" might be. Ruud wasn't signed to a long term deal. In fact, who knows what our ILB situation is going to look like in six months. Cushing should be ready for camp, but you've got to take out some insurance on him in the depth chart. James was a one year deal - he hasn't been much of a positive, but he's Wade's guy, so he's likely to stay. Sharpton keeps getting hurt, and teams don't have much patience for that these days. Dobbins is also a single year contract, if I am correct. Hard to fathom the team not drafting an ILB in April, but who knows how high a priority it is (day 1, 2, or 3). Similar story with the DBs: Quin, Alan Ball, Brice McCain, Demps, Routt are all free agents Carmichael may be in danger of getting cut if he can't demonstrate value on the field. I assume we'll work hard to retain Quin, but there's always the possibility of him leaving if someone has the cap space. Smith is a possible cap casualty (due $6M), Cody is a FA. Barwin's also a FA. We're going to need to hope that Rick Smith can bat with a high percentage in April. We could be looking at heavy turnover on defense.
Look, the only chance we have in winning this game is if Arian Foster plays like Arian Foster. Our defense usually does their part when they aren't forced to play 5 mins after they finally take a seat. Good run game = win TOP = Keep Brady of the field = Texans W
Out of all of those players you just listed, the only "must sign" in my book is Glover Quin. He's quite possibly a top 5 safety in the NFL right now, and I cringe thinking about what this defense would look like without him. The job he did on Gresham on Saturday was a HUGE reason why the Bengals couldn't move the ball worth squat. The rest of the guys on that list....meh. I think we address ILB on Day 1 AND Day 2 personally, along with safety. Interior D-Line is also another area that needs to be addressed in the draft...probably in the middle rounds.
Do y'all think a NYG defensive plan is implementable? Meaning the way the Giants got pressure on Brady was to line up with all Defensive ends on their d-line.
Pretty much how I feel. It will hurt losing Smith but texans won't have room to absorb his cap number. It's going to be a defensive heavy draft for sure. I can easily see 2 or 3 LBs taken, 2 DBs and a DT taken. THey will need to address TE and OL as well. It will be interesting to see how they prioritize...but this is a later conversation
Am I in a time warp or is this thread already moved into the off season? Don't we have at least one more game?
While it's not like McCain and Ball are great players, I'd hate to go into the offseason needing to replace our only decent backups at CB. We saw how much we struggled when we were forced to go with Kareem and Harris as the starters. We can maybe let one go, but not both. But both are backups so neither should be too expensive. Ball made less than Harris did this year. Ball's probably better suited as a normal backup while McCain is probably better suited as the primary nickel back.
Good point. McCain should be back. I don't think he will be getting offers that the texans can't afford.
Im not completely sure, but isnt the cap going to be readjusted??? here there is gonna be more space...
I don't think it changes much for next season. I think the big jump occurs in 2014. And the texans will need it to keep JJ. Frightening to think how big that contract will be
