Could Vince be maturing? I'll believe it when I see it.

TORONTO -- Vince Carter might leave the aerial acts to someone else at next month's All-Star Game in Washington.

The Toronto Raptors star says he doesn't plan to defend his slam dunk title.

"Probably not," Carter told the Toronto Star and Toronto Sun. "A lot of people put too much emphasis on that. I'm more than just a dunker. That's not what I'm about."

Carter, speaking before the Raptors' 110-97 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night, said he might ask to take part in the 3-point shooting contest during the Feb. 9-11 weekend.

Like the NBA would let that happen. David Stern's probably placing a call to Carter as we speak.

I wouldn't say it was maturation at all. I'd say he has realized that he's taken less seriously because of his dunks. So now he wants to be appreciated for all the other things he's capable of. Maybe he doesn't realize that his fame is completely based on the dunks and that people will like him a hell of a lot less when he stops them. I'm betting his agent is on the phone right now telling him he'd better dunk the ball as often as possible if he wants that Nike deal.

I hope Francis won't mess up. Remember the year when Drexler was expected to win because Niq and Jordan were injured or something? His dunks whimpered out.

I find it a little disappointing if he doesn't enter~ Carter is soo entertaining! He has a pretty well-rounded game. Does he need more appreciation with his other skills? But why not still stay in the contest?

I can't wait to see how Francis does...considering his height, etc. He has such major hops! How does he do it? Let's see what the meter says this year! I hope he starts choosing those dunks in regular games more wisely though~ he needs to be careful with that ankle! But it's definitely going to be showtime at the contest this year with Francis ~ BRING IT ON!

If he doesn't attend, just imagine...
Steve Francis how does it feel to be the winner of the 2001 Dunk Competition... Well Stevie would still have his work cut out for him.

I remember the year Clyde was expected to win. Even though his dunks weren't that good, he still lost to the most overrated dunk champion ever, Kenny Walker. Walker did the same thing over and over and everyone was impressed. It was ridiculous.

Vince probably realizes that it would be damn near impossible to top his dunks from last year...they were that damn good.

Kobe, Mcgrady, and Francis are the top 3 dunkers in the league next to Vinsanity. So if all three of them enter, it will be a battle between them 3. Vince is on another level when it comes to dunking, but he has a very polished offensive game. Now if he brings his defense up, then we will be witnessing something special. With his athletic ability, there is no reason why he can't become a good defender. Kobe vs. Vince will be a spectacular show for years to come! much like Duncan vs. Garnett is right now and Bird vs. Magic was 15 years ago.

Stern would probably let Carter be in the "Freshman" verses Sophmore" game, even though he is a "junior," if Carter wanted.
Or maybe they can make a new even especially for him.

Im no fan of Kobe, but I think there needs to be a showdown between carter and kobe. remember he didnt compete last year because of the title hopes. I want a Nique vs jordan like matchup.

    peace
