I just went through a bout with the flu. It was the worst case I have ever experienced. I am nearing the end of my 3rd week and, while I feel better, it is still lingering. It ruined my whole freaking holidays and now here we are starting another work year while I am not refreshed at all because I didn't get to do anything except be miserable. The worst part...besides being so feverish/sick/tired and sleeping a lot the first week or so...is losing my taste buds and losing my hearing partially. I could not taste anything for at least 2 weeks. I didn't eat anything for 4 straight days at the worst point and barely ate anything for the first week. Now, the last parts are just getting past the respiratory part of it and the hearing loss that comes with. I feel like I'm walking around in a daze with waterlogged ears...like I have a bag over my head. It just is not pleasant. And, my taste buds are just now starting to come back. Eating really sucks when you can't taste anything. It is really crazy the illness phases you go through just to get better. I'm still trying to get back to full health. I never did the flu shot before...but now I'm going to do it every year. It just isn't worth it to skip it imo after what I just went through. There is some nasty strain out there and I hope you don't get it cause it sucks something awful. Anyone else dealing with this bs? Go get your flu shot if you haven't. You do not want this.
I hear ya. The flu can definitely make you feel like you are dying. Sucks that you got hit with it right at the holidays. I get a flu shot every year. Even with the flu shot, I still tend to catch the flu once per year (usually around Febuary). Although I have noticed, the years I get a flu shot, it is less severe and recovery is much quicker, than if I did not get a flu shot. For that reason, I think it's a very wise move. You stand a better chance of not catching the flu, and even if you do, it's not as debiliating .
I'm just now recovering from the flu myself. I usually get the flu shot every year but it didnt save me this year. My wife works at a clinic and she has seen numerous people test positive for the flu even though they had gotten flu shots. Must be something different about this year's flu.
There are a variety of strains of influenza every year so it is very possible to get the flu even though you've had a flu shot. But the flu shot does decrease your chances and also tends to be effective against the very potent strains that have built up over the course of the season.
I got the flu shot when it was required by my high school. I haven't had it in at least 7 years. Flu don't want none of this.
Yes. I believe a doctor mentioned to my sister that the strand of flu virus this year was projected to be one thing but in reality it was a different one. Therefore, people with flu shot are still getting the flu. Wonder if they have modified the shot and if we can get a new one this season.
It was about 2 in the morning on New Year's Day, I woke up with the worst chill in my life. I had to put on a sweatshirt and sweat pants (this was after sleeping in a t-shirt and shorts with a heavy blanket) to get through the night. Had a migraine the rest of the day and fever. Luckily, I did not get the bad sore throat or coughing and sneezing. Thought I might have strep as it is going through my family now so I went to a walk-in clinic this morning. Was tested for both strep and flu and was positive on flu. I am taking Tamiflu and hopefully will be 100% by Monday. I remember getting the flu over 20 years ago when I was a sophomore in high school and what you said surf about not having any taste buds was so true. I can't tell you how many mello yellos I went through where I would take like one or two sips and then throw out the whole thing because it did not taste like it normally did, lol.
Going on 3 weeks? You haven't try to seek any medical help? I'm going on 3 days now will see my dr the day after tomorrow. i got some tamiflu from a friend today will see if i can get any better by tomorrow morning or the next. If not i'm heading to the dr. As for a lost of taste buds, you're not kidding. Had a meatball sandwich from subway today and it was salty. I thought it was the sandwich itself but the bake bbq chips was too.
Got a mild case of it about a week before the holidays. Lost my hearing and errthang, too. Just be glad this isn't the middle ages where we most likely would die from this.
never heard of a flu this bad, three weeks too? Did you get on any medication? See a doctor? I had a flu that lasted a week but by the 3rd day i went to see a doctor and he gave me meds that helped me heal.
