I liked the way he hustled, but he should have fouled out alot sooner.

The first call that should have been made would have been a delay of game on Najera or a taunting foul. He made the shot, caught the ball after it went through the net and slammed it to the court in Terrell Owens fashion. he should have been rung up right then and there. When I saw that I was stunned that the refs didn't "clean it up".

The second and third time Najera should have been called for over the back fouls. He was repeatedly going over the back early on and at one time, on the Dallas side of the court, pushed Hakeem from behind to get a rebound. I couldn't believe that there weren't any calls going against him.

Anyway, its one pre-season game where we were up by as much as 10 points. I guarantee if that game were in Houston, he would have been out within the first 5 minutes. Still, the game meant nothing.

The Referees will always give the benefit of the doubt to the player who is hustling.

I was most impressed with his hustle and skills.

    Najera really hustley !!

Amen (for the thread title). The refs treated him like Karl Malone instead of the rookie he is. Hustle or no, there is no way the refs would or should let him get away with that kind of play in the regular season.

He should have had a stat line more like Cato's last night: 11 minutes, 4 points, 2 rebounds.

The guy hustles, I'll give him that, but let him come into the Compaq Center and slam the ball down on the court like he did last night and we'll see just how quickly he fouls out again.

Sounds like some people need a little cheese...

Najera played quite well and there was no referee conspiracy to allow him to do so. He simply played harder than anyone else.

That doesn't mean he's going to have a lot of these nights during the regular season, but he's clearly an NBA level player with a huge capacity for hustle.

You gotta love players that hustle. Especially ones with less talent, who strive to get the max out of what they have.

    Impressive debut.

I can't help but wonder, if Langhi had performed like that, how many people would be saying Rookie Of The Year.

YEAH... I hope Kurt Rambis comes out of retirement.... I can't get enough of hustle players that fight for every rebound and loose ball. As long as they don't lose control too bad. Controlled hustle is great.

Again, which has been pointed out ad nauseum, this is just a preseason game... blahblahblah... Maybe the Mavs will sign him for 6 years now so he doens't have to play hard in the regular season.... Sound familiar?

Oh come on!!! Why can't you just give him credit for playing a great game. The refs this, the refs that, get real. That dunk he got was sweet and I almost found myself rooting for the Mavs but I realized that they aren't the Rockets. Mavs are going to be good and the Rockets will also be good and I could see these two teams fighting for a playoff spot. I've gotta give it up to Eduardo once again for a great effort, unlike the Rockets who played lackluster.

What I found most impressive was that he energized the Mavs, they were on the verge of collapse when he came in the game. Down around 10 points or so, then WHAM, tied up. Strictly on his hustle.

I like him, he would be welcome on any team, players that hustle that much usually have huge deficiencies in their game...Rodman, David Wood etc...etc.

Najera has all the skills, the smarts and the heart to be a quality NBA player.

Quit Whining, the Mavs won, and we didn't, so what, it is preseason.

najera played a great hustle game. and for years now, that has been the one thing that other teams could do - outhustle the rockets. that has been our nemesis since bill hanzlik. since seattle. since let's see...dallas.

i'd love to see the rox develop or acquire a najera (oops, we already had him [IMG]), hanzlik, david wood type. maybe collier will develop into that bruiser brody type player.

Essentially the top two players to come out of college the last couple of years are Duncan, Carter, and Francis.
