With gasoline prices skyrocketing, I thought it might be beneficial to start a thread where everyone (especially HTowners) could post the names & locations of gas stations that had gasoline at lower prices. I filled up two days ago at the Diamond Shamrock at Stella Link & North Braeswood for $1.50/gallon, but I think it's gone up since then.
The RaceTrac at 1960 and 290 has gas for close to $1.50 (although that was a couple of days ago also). Inside the loop it's hard to find under $1.55.
If you live in Austin, the cheapest gas is available in the NW, at the Exxon near the H.E.B. and Braker and Mopac. (At least that's the cheapest I've ever seen it in town) The only problem is that there are lines coming out of the parking lot nearly 24-hours a day!
Kroger has the same thing and you just need to get the card with the application... you don't even need to fill it out to start using it. Another thing that looked promising was that Shell has a credit card that gives back a 5% rebate on gas and 10% back for the first 60 days... but there is a catch: $20 annual fee after the first year and a variable APR of 14.24%. Yikes. There's always some catch
Sam's in The Woodlands (Interststate 45 North near Portofino's) charges $1.489 / gallon for unleaded gasoline as of last night. Thank you for thinking of this thread. Ya beat me to it!
There is a Chevron on Highway 6, south of Bellaire (quite a bit south, but I don't know what road the intersection is) that usually has very cheap gasoline. I haven't been for a while, but a few months ago, it was easily 15 to 20 cents lower per gallon. There was usually a line of people waiting to get in.
Ah man, if only gas was that cheap here in MD The stations near my house are charging $1.75+ for 87. The two closest to my place are: $1.81 for 87 and $2.02 for 93 INSANE! Gas prices are a little cheaper in Virginia.
I always wonder about Sam's gas though, is it any good? I used to go to that Sam's all the time when I lived at 45/Rayford.
I went to Sam's on the South loop at Fannin this morning and it was $1.45.9 for the cheap stuff. Sonny, you think some folks' gas is better than others'?
Well I am not a "gas racist" But I tend to think that Chevron/Shell/Exxon is going to be better than RaceTrack or some knockoff corner store. My friend who works for Shell told me that all of the gas is the same mostly but the name brand gas puts additives (like Chevron's Techron) that help keep your engine cleaner etc.
Sam's on Dunvale @ Westheimer has regular unleaded for $1.44/gallon. Cheapest place I've seen, and I drive around for a living.
I am a gas racist. I only use Exxon. and ONLY Exxon. I don't even use Mobil, and it's the same damn company.
I always wondered how that company stayed in business when the guy across the street is 10 cents cheaper.
Because I honestly don't think most drivers even look at the prices anymore. They just buy. They know it's expensive, but they still just buy. Stupid idiots . I remember the cheapest gas in the past 4 years (in Houston) was at the Mobil station right outside Beltway 8 on/off of (?) South Gessner. It was just down the street from the new DMV. It was like .86 cents.
